Mission: Impossible 8’s Global Box Office Milestone Closes Gap On 2000 Sequel In Franchise’s Charts

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning crosses another major global box office, closing in on the 2000 sequel’s box office score. The eighth installment, released on May 23, shattered an opening weekend box office record for the Mission: Impossible franchise, securing itself as the series’ best. Since then, the movie has hit several milestones.

Currently in its fifth week, Mission: Impossible 8 has made $547 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. The figure comprises $181 million from the domestic box office and $366 million from the international box office, making it only $2 million away from surpᴀssing Mission: Impossible II‘s $549 million earnings.

What This Means For Mission: Impossible 8

Mission: Impossible 8 Is Close To Making The Top 5

Mission: Impossible 8 is not far from surpᴀssing the 2000 sequel’s earnings, and based on the current growth rate, the film will likely surpᴀss the sequel in the coming weeks. On the other hand, despite having the series’ best opening, the eighth installment is currently the sixth highest-grossing film in the series.

The franchise record was set by 2018’s Fallout, which made around $786 million and is widely considered the best Mission: Impossible has to offer.

The second highest-grossing entry in the series is 2011’s Ghost Protocol at $694 million, followed by 2015’s Rogue Nation at $688 million and 2023’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Reckoning Part One at $565 million. Based on the series’ uneven, yet gradually increasing earnings, there’s a big chance that Final Reckoning might end up making more than its predecessor in 2023, currently only $18 million short.

The Final Reckoning had an estimated production cost of $300-$400 million, which means the movie still has a long way to go before making money. Currently, the movie doesn’t have a digital release date, but the latest Tom Cruise movie is expected to arrive on digital platforms sometime in July and August.

Our Take On Mission: Impossible 8’s Box Office

Mission: Impossible 8 Falls Short At The Box Office

There’s still room for growth for Mission: Impossible 8‘s box office. Despite having a big figure at the worldwide box office, the movie isn’t doing as well as everyone believes in the grand view of the series. The Final Reckoning is more than $100 million away from making the top 3.

While it has some of Cruise’s most dangerous stunts, it’s very unlikely to see it surpᴀss Fallout‘s record, which remains the series’ peak.
