A clip from Superman shows the DC Universe hero facing off against Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor over the fate of a now-beloved DC hero. The marketing for James Gunn’s Superman movie is fully underway, with the movie only a few weeks out. Naturally, the first installment in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters is the focus of many talk shows.
One such show is Jimmy Kimmel Live, guest-hosted by Andor‘s Diego Luna in the absence of the тιтular presenter, which saw Nicholas Hoult and David Corenswet take center stage. Before being interviewed about all things Superman, a clip showing the former’s Lex Luthor and the latter’s Superman facing off was presented:
This clip shows Superman barging into Lex Luthor’s office, angrily asking, “Where’s the dog?” This is undoubtedly in reference to Superman’s loyal ally, Krypto, who has seemingly fallen prey to Lex Luthor’s schemes. Lex plays coy, further angering Superman, while Lex’s girlfriend Eve captures everything on her phone.
Superman’s anger subsides briefly after throwing a desk across the room, telling Lex, “He’s just a dog.” Superman’s nemesis continues to pretend he doesn’t know what dog is being referenced, before muttering into his coffee mug, “Ugly dog? Cape?” The clip ends with Lex arrogantly taking a sip of his drink, leaving the fate of the now-beloved Krypto unknown.
What The Superman Clip Means For The DC Universe Movie
Krypto Is In More Danger Than We Thought
In terms of what this Superman clip means for the upcoming DC movie, it suggests Krypto plays an integral part in the conflict between Lex Luthor and the тιтular hero. It is clear that Lex has always hated Superman, but this clip makes it seem as though the latter was unaware of the villain’s schemes for quite some time.
After all, the clip begins with Lex retorting, “Superman. We finally meet.” This means that Lex’s plan has been brewing for a while, culminating in the theft of Krypto, which tips Superman over the edge and truly begins their rivalry. This makes Krypto a central piece of the puzzle, which, after Gunn’s previous focus on animals like Rocket Raccoon, makes sense.
Our Take On The Superman Movie Clip
Superman vs. Lex Looks To Be In Good Hands
Overall, the Superman clip got me even more excited about the movie. Superman vs. Lex Luthor is an iconic DC Comics rivalry, and it seems as though Gunn, Hoult, and Corenswet have understood that. This clip perfectly encapsulates their dynamic, with Lex putting forward his petty, arrogant, self-ᴀssured personality while Superman scrambles to stop his machinations.
Seeing Superman have such a human outburst of emotion was great too. Corenswet nails this, before realizing his mistakes, calming himself down, and trying to appeal to the innate goodness of Lex that isn’t there. All of this proves how great Superman‘s character dynamics and performances will be, starting with the central hero-villain duo.
