The X-Men franchise has delivered some unforgettable final battles – and a few major letdowns. With Marvel movies spanning decades, timelines, and tones, each final confrontation tries to send its story off with a bang. Whether it’s a brutal brawl, an emotional showdown, or a chaotic team clash, these battles showcase the diverse powers and themes that define the X-Men.
Across seven mainline X-Men films, three Wolverine spin-offs, The New Mutants, and two ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool movies (plus ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine for completion), the X-Men franchise has experimented with nearly every kind of final battle. Some are tragic, some hilarious, and some just downright weird. They range from high-stakes world-ending threats to personal, character-driven fights. Whether they deliver a powerful emotional punch or fizzle out with poor CGI, they’re all here, mutants united, for better or worse.

Jean Grey Vs Vuk
Dark Phoenix
After a brutal and well-staged train fight, Dark Phoenix ends with a whimper. Jean Grey confronts Vuk, played with icy detachment by Jessica Chastain, and ends things by flying her into space and atomizing her. There’s barely a fight to speak of. No tension, no choreography, no real stakes.
It’s a cosmic lightshow masquerading as a climax. After a decade of build-up for the Dark Phoenix story, this finale lands with a thud. It’s not just underwhelming. it’s disappointing on almost every level.

Wolverine Vs The Silver Samurai
The Wolverine
The Wolverine begins as a serious, emotional film but ends with an absurdly over-the-top CGI battle. The giant, robotic Silver Samurai looked a far cry from his comic book counterpart. Wolverine slashes his way through predictable moves and contrived reveals, including a silly twist about who’s really inside the armor and Wolverine losing his adamantium claws.
The fight has a few cool moments, but they’re buried under nonsense. It feels disconnected from the film’s tone and ignores the strong, character-driven story that preceded it. A visually loud but emotionally empty finish to an otherwise thoughtful solo outing.

X-Men & Horsemen Vs Apocalypse
X-Men: Apocalypse
The final battle sees the X-Men teaming up against Apocalypse and his Horsemen in a desert wasteland. It should feel epic, and sometimes it does, but it leans on visual spectacle over emotional payoff. Cyclops, Storm, and Magneto get cool moments, but everything hinges on Jean randomly unleashing the Phoenix Force with little buildup.
The stakes are global, yet the fight feels oddly hollow. It’s big, loud, and sometimes entertaining, but also messy and forced. Plus, this version of the Phoenix is completely ignored in the next film when it became an external force, making this climax feel even more inconsequential in hindsight.

Fighting The Demon Bear
The New Mutants
Despite the film’s low budget and uneven quality, The New Mutants ends with a surprisingly engaging final battle. The monstrous Demon Bear attacks the hospital, forcing the young mutants to finally unleash their powers. Illyana/Magik steals the show with her sword, full armor, and Lockheed the dragon.
It’s slow, brutal, and oddly stylish. While not a large-scale showdown, it’s intense and personal, with each character forced to confront their fears. It may not rival the franchise’s biggest fights, but this climax at least delivers a solid punch of mutant action, closing The New Mutants better than expected.

Wolverine & Sabretooth Vs ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
The final battle in X-Men Origins: Wolverine is one of the film’s rare highlights. Wolverine and Sabretooth team up to fight Weapon XI, a mute, sword-armed version of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool. It’s slick, fast-paced, and perilous, using the setting of a crumbling nuclear facility to good effect.
The choreography is sharp and there’s genuine danger, even if the “ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool” character design is sacrilegious. While the rest of the film is a mess of continuity errors and questionable writing, this showdown is energetic and visually interesting enough to stand on its own. It’s just a shame about everything around it.
9
Colossus Vs Juggernaut
ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2
ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s second outing ends with a humorous yet brutal showdown featuring Colossus going toe-to-toe with Juggernaut. While the larger story wraps around ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s emotional growth, the final fight is a metal-on-metal clash that’s pure fan service. It’s delightfully violent, enhanced by ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s sarcastic commentary and over-the-top visuals.
Juggernaut’s size and strength clash well against Colossus’s rigid heroism, and their battle becomes a satisfying sideshow within the larger fight. It’s not the emotional centerpiece, but it’s certainly the most fun beat-for-beat. This battle balances gore and comedy perfectly, staying true to ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s tone while offering up a surprisingly solid mini-brawl.

The Battle Of Alcatraz
X-Men: The Last Stand
Set on Alcatraz Island, this all-out mutant war in X-Men: The Last Stand sees Magneto’s Brotherhood clash with the X-Men over a “cure” for mutation. While overstuffed with characters and CGI, it has genuine spectacle and moments of emotional weight, particularly Jean/Phoenix’s meltdown and Wolverine’s devastating decision. The stakes feel real, and the tension between personal loyalty and ideological warfare plays out well. However, the editing is choppy, and some character arcs are rushed or wasted entirely. Still, for all its faults, this final battle is strangely effective in capturing the franchise’s central themes.
7
X-Men Vs The Hellfire Club
X-Men: First Class
The Cuban Missile Crisis forms the backdrop for this thrilling finale, as Charles and Erik’s young team confronts Sebastian Shaw and the Hellfire Club. With real-world stakes and crisp action, the battle is character-driven and politically charged. Each mutant uses their power creatively, especially Magneto, whose iconic confrontation with Shaw leads to a pivotal turn toward villainy.
Charles’s paralysis and Erik’s donning of the helmet are memorable moments that stick with you. It’s a climax built on ideological conflict and emotional beats, not just explosions. One of the most satisfying and meaningful endings in the series.
6
Fighting Ajax With The X-Men
ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool
The climax of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool finds Wade, Colossus, and Negasonic storming a junkyard to rescue Vanessa and defeat Ajax. It’s a hilarious and high-energy battle filled with stylized violence, fourth-wall breaks, and surprising character development. ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s acrobatics and crude tactics contrast hilariously with Colossus’s earnest heroism.
The emotional resolution (Wade revealing his scarred face to Vanessa) is surprisingly sweet amidst the chaos. The location’s visual drabness is its only real downside. Still, it delivers everything a ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool audience could want: inventive fights, sharp humor, and just enough heart. A solid, satisfying climax that stays true to its unique voice.

ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine Vs ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool Corps
ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine
In ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine’s multiverse-mashing chaos, Wade and Logan face off against the ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool Corps in a kinetic, R-rated showdown. It’s absurd, over-the-top, and blood-soaked, with each variant providing different comic and action beats. Wolverine is feral and focused, while ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s chaotic energy brings the laughs.
With creative kills, self-aware humor, and visually dynamic action, this final fight manages to feel epic and personal. Of course, the whole scene is improved greatly with Wolverine donning the comic-accurate cowl for the first time. It’s a love letter to fans and a thrilling capstone to ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s universe-cracking adventure.
