Christopher Nolan’s Upcoming Fantasy Movie Is Officially Beating The MCU To An Exciting Actor Team-Up

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, has ᴀssembled several big stars for its cast, with the two most notable names being actors Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal. Having directed big-budget blockbusters like The Dark Knight, Inception, and Oppenheimer, it’s no surprise that Nolan was able to add Holland and Bernthal to The Odyssey and its mᴀssive list of A-list actors.

Bernthal’s casting alongside Holland in the movie is actually even more special, given Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey will premiere just a couple of weeks before Marvel Studios releases Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It is also remarkable given their previous history as actors.

Though these two esteemed actors are set to star in the latter superhero film, The Odyssey will actually beat Marvel in setting up a long-awaited collaboration between both actors on the big screen.

The Odyssey Will Reunite Tom Holland & Jon Bernthal Before Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man And Punisher Will Appear In The Same Film After The Odyssey

Right now, who Bernthal will play in The Odyssey is unknown, leaving the roles of every actor in the film besides Matt Damon a nail-biting mystery. However, Bernthal was spotted with Holland on The Odyssey‘s set in March 2025, so it appears that both actors will have scenes together in Nolan’s new epic.

More recently, Bernthal was confirmed to be reprising his role as the crime-vigilante Frank Castle/Punisher in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day. His casting in the fourth Spider-Man film will bring his Punisher to the big screen with Holland’s version of the web-slinger, finally bringing two popular comic book characters together in a long-awaited crossover.

Holland & Bernthal’s History Makes Their Reunions More Exciting

Holland And Bernthal Will Work Together As Long-Time Colleagues

Neither The Odyssey nor Brand New Day are Bernthal and Holland’s first film together. They actually met and worked together on the 2017 movie, Pilgrimage, which was filmed in 2015. During that time, Holland and Bernthal filmed each other’s audition tapes for their respective Marvel roles. While speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Bernthal jokingly took credit for Holland getting the role of Spider-Man.

Since Bernthal and Holland helped each other get their most iconic movie roles, their being cast in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as well as The Odyssey, should bring their career journeys full circle.

Since Bernthal and Holland helped each other get their most iconic movie roles, their collaboration in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as well as The Odyssey, should bring their career journeys full circle. Also, given their previous work history together, they should work well together, making both blockbusters even more special for them.

Since The Odyssey is a Nolan blockbuster, it will surely be an exciting and jaw-dropping fantasy epic. The source material has also hinted at an action-packed adventure filled with monsters and magic, so audiences familiar with Homer’s story also know the kind of thrills they can expect from his big-budget adaptation. However, it’s unknown how long Holland and Bernthal’s characters will share the screen in The Odyssey, as their roles remain under wraps.

On the other hand, Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s story is unknown. What is known is that No Way Home left Holland’s character on a high note by erasing everyone’s memory of him and becoming a full-time Spider-Man. This should make his return to the big screen an exciting and emotional sequel.

Likewise, Spider-Man and the Punisher teaming up or trading blows in the upcoming sequel should make for a dark but thrilling comic book movie crossover not yet seen with Holland’s character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the end, both The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Way should be entertaining if both Holland and Bernthal starred in them. In the past decade, the two of them have proven themselves to be some of the most talented and prolific actors working in Hollywood.

The two of them sharing the screen together should be a mᴀssive boon for whatever film they’re in. Though The Odyssey beat Marvel in bringing them back together, the fact that they will star in two blockbusters together in the same month in 2026 should be especially pleasing to their fans.
