The MCU Just Gave The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ тιтle Another, Darker Meaning

Despite already having several, The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ тιтle just received a new, dark meaning. The new Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer offered the best look at the film yet, from the villainous Galactus to the team’s central dynamic. Alongside hints at The Thing’s iconic catchphrase, the trailer revealed a lot about the upcoming Marvel movie.

The hints at Galactus and the Silver Surfer are perhaps the most exciting elements of the trailer, as these are the most mysterious parts about the story of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. We know Galactus will set his sights on Earth, and the тιтular team will look to stop him, but the intricate details are missing.

Interestingly, though, a new meaning for the тιтle may have just been revealed. The trailer hints at specific parts of Galactus’ story and his link to Reed Richards and the other members of the Fantastic Four‘s cast. Via these teasers, The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ тιтle just got darker.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ тιтle Already Has Several Meanings

The Subтιтle Means A Lot

Firstly, it is worth exploring the meanings that The Fantastic Four: First Steps already has. The most obvious is the fact that the movie is the team’s debut in the MCU. Aside from a cameo from a Reed Richards variant in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the 2025 Marvel movie serves as the team’s “first steps” into the franchise.

Another meaning was then revealed to us via the second trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This trailer revealed that Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm would be pregnant in the movie, eventually giving birth to Franklin Richards. As such a powerful Marvel Comics character, Franklin’s “first steps” are just as important to the film’s тιтle.

The Final Fantastic Four: First Steps Trailer Gives A Literal Meaning To The тιтle

Thanks To Reed Richards

Now, with the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ final trailer, another, more literal meaning for the subтιтle has been provided. The trailer shows the team going into space to confront Galactus for the first time. While it is unclear when this takes place in the movie’s story, one sH๏τ sets up the spectacle of it all while linking to the тιтle.

The тιтle suddenly becomes much darker…

The sH๏τ shows Reed Richards stepping onto Galactus’ ship. The sH๏τ is akin to the classic sH๏τs of people stepping onto the moon for the first time in movies, for example, linking to the iconic words of “One small step for man…” The space-faring adventure of Fantastic Four draws that parallel, with Reed leaving his footprint, complete with the 4 logo, in the dust behind him.

Herein lies a much more literal take on The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Rather than the figurative first steps of the team in the MCU or Franklin Richards, the sH๏τ showcases Reed taking his literal first steps onto Galactus’ ship. If the theories are correct and these first steps are what cause Galactus to come to Earth, the тιтle suddenly becomes much darker.

The Fantastic Four’s Literal New тιтle Meaning Sets Up An Even Darker One

Linking To The Film’s Main Villain

As alluded to, many are theorizing that The Fantastic Four causes Galactus’ MCU debut. The ship in the trailer looks like one from the comics, in which Galactus stays in a state of incubation. The theory claims that the team finds this before he comes to Earth, awakening him, and leading the Silver Surfer to Earth with the words “I herald his beginning.”

If this theory comes to fruition, the literal first steps of The Fantastic Four on Galactus’ ship give the тιтle yet another meaning, though one that is much darker. The team waking up Galactus, if it happens, clearly leads him to Earth, as the many trailers have shown, with Galactus either looming over Earth or setting foot on it.

Therefore, The Fantastic Four’s first steps on Galactus’ ship may cause the villain’s first steps on Earth. While the cosmic enтιтy likely would have targeted Earth anyway, the aforementioned theory provides a direct link between them. This link is all connected to the various characters’ first steps, proving The Fantastic Four: First Steps has an abundance of meaning.
