Jensen Ackles opens up about potentially joining James Gunn’s DC Universe as Batman in The Brave and The Bold. Following the numerous occasions of Gunn reaffirming that the DCU’s Batman won’t be Robert Pattinson, many are waiting to see who will actually don the cape and cowl in DC Studios’ new superhero franchise.
One of the popular choices for Bruce Wayne in Gunn’s DC reboot is Ackles, who’s made a name for himself on fan-favorite series like Supernatural and The Boys. He’s even voiced the Caped Crusader in DC’s short-lived animated Tomorrowverse franchise. With fans wanting to see Ackles cast as the DCU’s Batman, the actor addressed those discussions in a new interview.
While speaking with Collider, Ackles was asked what kind of live-action Batman he would want to play in the DCU franchise, if he got the chance. Ackles, who has been open about wanting to play the Dark Knight in live-action, shared the following:
Oh, man. I don’t know. It would be hard to carve out something truly unique amongst all of the performances as Batman. I would probably have to lean heavily on Gunn and whoever’s directing and whoever’s writing it, and get inspiration from the text.
He went on to talk about the importance of the role, and the responsibility that comes with it, saying, “You talk about not wanting to fumble the football — that’s one that I would be nervous as hell to carry. But also proud. A certain feather in the cap. Anybody who gets to wear the cowl, they got something.”
When the interviewer told Ackles they’d be crossing their fingers for him to get a chance to play Batman, he quickly responded, “I’ll cross ’em, too. Just say the word.”
What Jensen Ackles’ Batman Comments Mean
Based on his comments, it seems like Ackles is still game to star in the DCU’s upcoming Batman movie, though it may come down to the vision for the film. But since Ackles is a Batman fan himself, he may be interested in The Brave and The Bold’s direction. The movie will tackle Bruce being a father to Damian Wayne, which hasn’t been done in live-action.
The Brave and The Bold will also follow a version of Batman who is further along in his journey as Gotham City’s protector, which would make Ackles a good fit for Bruce. With Ackles’ track record as an actor, it’d be a shame for DC Studios not to at least consider him as a serious candidate for the Batman role.
Since Gunn confirmed that the DCU’s Batman casting search has not started yet, because the script is still being worked on, a lot can happen between now and when they actually start holding auditions. The idea that Ackles and Gunn could have conversations about The Brave and The Bold in the meantime is definitely possible, especially after the actor’s latest comments.
Our Take On Jensen Ackles’ Batman Comments
After hearing how Ackles would want to approach playing Batman in the DCU, seeing him get the chance to finally play the superhero in live-action would be a dream-casting come true. With David Corenswet bringing Krypton’s last son back to the big screen this summer, this would be an ideal combination for the DCU’s Superman and Batman.
Time will tell how long it will be until DC Studios starts looking for its next Dark Knight, as it will depend on when the script is actually completed. Hopefully, once The Brave and The Bold gets to casting their new Batman, Ackles will at least have a chance to be considered for the iconic superhero role.
