Brad Pitt Clarifies New Details About Netflix’s OUATIH Spinoff Movie & Tarantino’s Involvement

Brad Pitt shares new details on David Fincher’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood spinoff movie. Pitt is reprising his role as Cliff Booth in the upcoming spinoff project, currently in development at Netflix. Directed by David Fincher and with a script from Quentin Tarantino, the new project has been described as a continuation of Cliff’s story after the original film.

While promoting his new movie, F1, Pitt shared some new details with ᴅᴇᴀᴅline about the spinoff, reportedly тιтled The Adventures of Cliff Booth. He clarified that Tarantino wrote “an episode” about his character, but “didn’t want to direct it,” and hence, the project is not a sequel, but a spinoff. Pitt also revealed when production would start. Read his comments below:

This is something Quentin Tarantino wrote. It’s an episode, not really a sequel, of the character from “Once Upon A Time”. He didn’t want to direct it at this point, so David Fincher stepped in.

What This Means For The Adventures Of Cliff Booth

The Cliff Booth Spinoff Is Heading To Production Next Month

The Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood follow-up was announced in April. While details are under wraps, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II have been confirmed to join the project as new cast members. The spinoff will take place several years after the events in the original and sees Cliff reinventing himself as a Hollywood studio fixer in the 1970s. Pitt’s comments about the upcoming spinoff being an episode also suggests that the project only zones in on a specific time in Cliff’s life instead of focusing on the character’s life story.

While Tarantino’s 10th and rumored final movie, The Movie Critic, was canceled, he is working on writing a play as his next project. In the past, Tarantino has written several scripts that were directed by others, including Tony Scott’s True Romance and Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk till Dawn. Known for his distinct visual style and storytelling, Fincher often works with scripts written by others. He and Pitt have collaborated on delivering several cult classics, including Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin ʙuттon.

Our Take On The Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Spinoff

The Cliff Booth Spinoff Might Not Be The Last

Tarantino’s script and Fincher’s direction will shape the upcoming Netflix movie. While many may still feel unsure about the project, the Cliff Booth spinoff is moving forward. Netflix movies sometimes take two to three years to make from initial concept to release, with development typically taking the longest. Given that the project is going into production next month, the spinoff might arrive sooner than most expected.

More solid news about returning actors and new cast members could come in the coming months. With The Adventures of Cliff Booth being “an episode” and the original OUATIH being a love letter to the 1960s, Pitt isn’t shutting down the idea of more episodes. Being produced on Netflix also means that the movie might be under a straight-to-streaming contract, though some films have received a theatrical release.
