Frozen is topping the charts for Disney once again when the entertainment giant has released a unique viewing experience on its streaming platform that many were eager to see. Frozen defined the landscape of modern Disney animation after becoming an astounding phenomenon in 2013. The Oscar-winning picture was everyone’s new favorite Disney Princess movie, and subsequent installments in the unofficial franchise similarly moved away from the traditional romance storylines, focusing on friendships, familial relationships, and the empowerment of the protagonists.
Frozen also re-emphasized the value of getting Broadway-level talent to work on the soundtracks for original Disney movies. Previously, some of the movies with the best Disney soundtracks of all time were adapted for the stage, seeing great success with The Little Mermaid and The Lion King. Frozen featured Broadway stars Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff, while Moana later tapped the iconic Lin-Manuel Miranda to compose its soundtrack. Now, the current state of Disney+ shows that people only love Frozen more for its relationship to Broadway.
Frozen: The Hit Broadway Musical Is At #1 On Disney+
A New “Live Performance” Movie Success For Disney
Shortly after the mᴀssive success of Frozen, Disney started developing a stage version of their new beloved tale. Frozen: The Musical entered development in early 2014, and the creators took their time to get it right. The show previewed in Denver in 2017 and went to Broadway in 2018. While the show maintained its popularity over time, Disney also started venturing into producing professional recordings of live performances. It is not surprising that they would eventually do this with Broadway’s Frozen when the copyright for it is already with Disney.
Frozen: The Hit Broadway Musical became available on Disney+ on June 20, 2025, and instantly sH๏τ to the #1 spot on the Top 10 chart, replacing the 2025 remake of Snow White (via flixpatrol.com). Given that Snow White was likely popular on streaming due to its accessibility and people being curious to see what all the drama of March and April was about, a unique and quality feature like Frozen would easily overtake it. Disney previously released movie versions of Hamilton (2020) and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour (2023) on Disney+, two notoriously expensive productions to see live.
Our Take On Frozen’s Broadway Movie Becoming A Streaming Hit
It’s Incredible That Disney Is Letting Us See This
Frozen‘s Broadway production on Disney+ continues a great trend, wherein Disney is doing something I find genuinely admirable by making such experiences more accessible in some form. This release could also lend itself to a resurgence in the Frozen franchise in general, as pᴀssion for the story is rekindled by seeing such showstopping hits as “Let It Go” in a new light. The animated Frozen series still has much more in store, but seeing the gorgeous detail and tangibility of it being performed on stage is something truly special.
