A Much-Needed Jason Statham Sequel Looks More Likely As Hit With 87% RT Audience Score Finds New Success

Jason Statham’s new action movie, A Working Man, now looks likely to get a sequel following the film’s newfound success. After making a splash with тιтles like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2000), Statham made his action hero debut with The Transporter (2002), an action flick that paved the way for two Statham-starring sequels, as well as other тιтles like Crank (2006), War (2007), The Expendables (2010), and The Mechanic (2011). Statham hasn’t slowed down in recent years, settling into his role as a reliable lead of mid-budget action fare.

Since 2020, Statham has played the no-nonsense hero in films like Wrath of Man (2021), The Expendables 4 (2023), and The Beekeeper (2024), the last of which marked a successful collaboration with director David Ayer. Statham and Ayer recently reunited for A Working Man, an action thriller in which Statham plays Levon Cade, a construction worker who uses skills from a violent past to rescue a local girl who goes missing.

A Working Man’s VOD Success Can Help Jason Statham Get A Sequel

The 2025 Action Thriller Has Been A Hit With Audiences At Home

Though A Working Man has not been confirmed to be getting a sequel, the film has been a consistent audience draw on VOD. According to FlixPatrol, the 2025 action thriller has remained in the top 10 for digital purchases on Amazon Prime for 20 days now. It’s been performing similarly well on Vudu, ranking in the top 10 for 20 days. As of June 21, A Working Man also ranks as the number 12 тιтle on iTunes, where it has been a consistent performer.

This VOD success follows a respectable performance at the box office. Hitting theaters in March, the film ended its theatrical run with just over $99 million worldwide on a reported budget of $40 million. The traditional Hollywood rule of thumb would put the film’s break-even point at around $100 million, which it essentially hit, but VOD revenue will undoubtedly push the film into profitability. A Working Man also looks destined to be a streaming success in the long-term, as Statham is consistently a major audience draw on streaming.

On May 31, Statham had three movies in Prime Video’s top 10, including A Working Man, Wrath of Man, and The Beekeeper, a testament to his power as a leading man on streaming platforms.

Jason Statham May Have Found His New Action Franchise

There Could Be Many More Levon Cade Adventures To Come

If A Working Man 2 does happen, it may not be the last audiences see of Levon Cade. The Ayer film adapts the events of Levon’s Trade, a 2014 novel by author Chuck Dixon. The book was a success with readers, and there are now 12 books in the Levon Cade series in total. If Ayer and Statham wanted to turn A Working Man into a franchise, there is evidently plenty of source material to pull from when crafting Levon’s future movie outings.

If box office remains a little softer, future Working Man movies could instead feature lower budgets.

Continued audience engagement and enthusiasm would be key a third or fourth outing for Statham’s Levon. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film enjoys an 87% audience score, but A Working Man reviews were less glowing from critics, with the film having only a 48% critics’ score. If the prospective sequel manages to impress both audiences and critics, like The Beekeeper did, it has the potential to more closely align with that film’s stellar worldwide box office gross of $162 million. If box office remains a little softer, future Working Man movies could instead feature lower budgets.

Jason Statham’s Standalone Action Movies Are Still Coming Too

The Action Star Has Some Exciting Projects On The Horizon

Jason Statham in the Beekeeper

If A Working Man 2 doesn’t move forward, there’s still plenty of Statham action to come. He’s set to reprise his role as Adam Clay in the upcoming The Beekeeper 2 from director Tima Tjahjanto. He’s also poised to star in an action thriller called Mutiny alongside actor Annabelle Wallis from director Jean-François Richet.

These two films are in addition to an unтιтled action film set on a remote Scottish island from director Ric Roman Waugh, and the anticipated Fast X: Part 2, which could well serve as Statham’s last outing as gruff antihero Deckard Shaw. If the latest VOD performance is anything to go by, a sequel to A Working Man could eventually be announced to accompany this exciting upcoming slate of movies.
