Chris Evans Names Revived 1993 Western In Top 4 Favorite Movies, Admitting “I Could Probably Perform It Right Now”

MCU star Chris Evans cited Tombstone as one of his top four favorite movies. A Western from director George P. Cosmatos, the 1994 film is a star-studded ensemble movie featuring the likes of Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Bill Paxton, and, of course, Western icon Sam Elliott. In fact, it’s widely regarded as one of the best movies for several of the actors involved in the film, such as Russell and Kilmer.

Set in 1879, Tombstone boasts a cast of characters comprised of a slew of historical figures, from notorious outlaws like Johnny Ringo and William “Curly Bill” Brocious to legendary Western heroes like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Despite juggling a mᴀssive cast of actors, not to mention surprising appearances from Charlton Heston and Harry Carey Jr., Tombstone succeeds in being an entertaining Western and a longtime favorite of many – including Chris Evans.

Chris Evans Included Tombstone In His List Of Top 4 Movies

Evans Has Apparently Seen Tombstone Several Times

In a video where Chris Evans and Materialists co-star Dakota Johnson are asked to list their top four favorite films, Evans named Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Legends of the Fall, Goonies, and Tombstone. Specifically discussing his Tombstone pick, Evans acknowledged being a huge fan of the movie despite it not being something “the high-brow society will deem quality film.” Evans explains that Tombstone is one of the only movies he “can probably perform, right now, from start to finish.”

The movie only holds a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but that on its own isn’t indicative of its enduring popularity.

The movie only holds a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but that on its own isn’t indicative of its enduring popularity. Tombstone is regularly lauded as one of the best Westerns of the 1990s, right up there with Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven. All things considered, it’s not surprising to see it referenced as a favorite. Tombstone has long been deemed as a fun Western, and arguably one of the best entries the genre has seen since the days of John Wayne.

Our Take On Chris Evans’ Comments About Tombstone

Chris Evans Is Unfortunately Right About Tombstone’s Reputation With The “High-Brow Society”

John Corbett in Tombstone

Chris Evans isn’t wrong in his ᴀssessment of Tombstone in the eyes of the “high-brow society.” Discussions of the greatest movies of all time generally favor films of the caliber of The Godfather, Citizen Kane, and Casablanca (which was in Dakota Johnson’s incomplete list). Tombstone isn’t a film likely to be found in those conversations, especially not those of critics, particularly not when its Rotten Tomatoes rating is as low as 74%, which is hardly a good indicator of its quality.

Even so, that doesn’t take away from the notion that Tombstone is an entertaining popcorn movie, full of enjoyable performances from recognizable stars, solid one-liners, and great Western action. Tombstone may not have won any Academy Awards, yet it’s still a film worth watching enough times for one to memorize every scene.
