Prey 2 Is Going To Be Nothing Like The Movie I Expected After This New Reveal

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Prey & Predator: Killer of Killers!

A new Predator movie features a major reveal about the fate of Prey‘s main protagonist, revealing that Prey 2 is going to be nothing like I originally expected. Prey is the movie that kicked off the modern Predator golden age, turning opinion of the franchise around after the release of the critically panned 2018 The Predator reboot. 2025 has two Predator films in store to follow up on Prey‘s release, but a proper Prey sequel still hasn’t happened. However, if Prey 2 does happen, it is now clear that it will be nothing like its predecessor.

Predator: Killer of Killers is the first of 2025’s two Predator films, and so far, it has been a worthy Prey successor. The animated anthology film follows three different Predators in three different eras, with them fighting Vikings, ninjas, and World War II pilots. Although the initial three segments of Predator: Killer of Killers are disconnected, the film ends with a fourth segment that brings everything together. This exciting final chapter sees the human characters from each segment work together to escape the Yautja homeworld. However, one character isn’t successful, leading to this major Prey reveal.

Predator: Killer Of Killers Reveals Naru Is A Yautja Prisoner & In The Future

How Long Have The Yautja Had Her?

Naru is the main character in Prey, and while many of her peers were killed by the Predator that came to Earth in 1719, she managed to kill the Predator. This led to her being hailed as a hero, and while Prey ends on a happy note for Naru, things only got worse for her. The Prey credits teased that several more Yautja ships arrived on Earth after Naru’s battle with the first Predator, with this seeming like an obvious sequel tease. However, the tease’s payoff isn’t quite what anyone expected.

In Predator: Killer of Killers, the main three characters attempt to use a Yautja ship to escape the Predator planet. Unfortunately, the Viking Ursa has to stay behind so that her two friends can escape. Ursa is captured by the Yautja and placed into a suspended animation chamber. She is then taken to a mᴀssive warehouse filled with similar chambers. Each of these chamber shows a different alien individual, with all of these characters presumably having killed Predators in the past. This is confirmed when Ursa is taken by one more chamber, with it containing Naru from Prey.

So, we now know that Naru has been taken from Earth and is on an alien planet. She is also far removed from her 1700s time period. It is clear that some characters have been held for centuries, and the existence of World War II pilot John Torres means that it is the 1940s at the earliest. It isn’t known how long John has been in suspended animation for, meaning that it could have been centuries more beyond that point. However, Naru has been in suspended animation for at least 200 years, and possibly a lot longer.

Prey 2 Has To Tell Naru’s Story After Predator: Killer Of Killers Now

Showing How She Escapes The Planet

Prey 2 has not been officially confirmed, and while the stars of the original Prey have expressed interest in a sequel, the film may not happen. However, if Prey 2 does happen, it is now obvious what the story has to be about. Since Naru is trapped on a Yautja planet, Prey 2 will have to follow her on this planet. The sequel story will probably see Naru, along with several of the other Predator killers, work together to escape the Yautja planet, as the trio did at the end of Predator: Killer of Killers. This would make Prey 2 a spiritual successor to Predators, one of the franchise’s most underrated films.

However, it is possible that this story may now be told in Prey 2. It has already been confirmed that Predator: Badlands will take place on an alien planet, and while it hasn’t been revealed if it is the Yautja planet from Predator: Killer of Killers, it certainly looks like it. Predator: Badlands could wrap up the story of Predator: Killer of Killers, with Yautja protagonist Dek locating Ursa and Naru in their attempts to escape. This would be an interesting addition to the film, making Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator trilogy feel as if it has a proper overarching story.

Prey 2 Exploring Naru’s Life Away From Her Tribe Is Unexpected

It Takes Away One Of Prey’s Big Appeals

While this Naru story could be fun, it is definitely unexpected. One of the big appeals of the original Prey was its Great Plains setting. A lot of care and focus was given to how the Comanche were portrayed, with Naru’s life among the tribe being a key part of the film. Feeling like an outcast among the tribe was also a mᴀssive part of Prey‘s themes, and now that Naru is considered a hero by her tribe, it is odd to rip her away from them.

The Prey credits tease also seemed to set up a Prey sequel where the Comanche had to fight several Predators at once. While this was just speculation, it seemed like the most obvious conclusion based on the art that was shown. It isn’t known if it was always planned for the Yautja to take Naru or if this idea was developed during the production of Predator: Killer of Killers. However, it is certainly an unexpected one.

The New Direction For Prey 2 Is Still Exciting, Even If It’s Not What I Wanted

Maybe A Sequel Will Prove Me Wrong

If the franchise is going to bring back Naru, I would rather have a proper Prey 2, further exploring how the Yautja act in the early 1700s setting. Bringing back Naru in a storyline set on the Yautja planet seems a little too convenient, not to mention the fact that it takes away much of what I found appealing about the first Prey.

However, I’m still excited to see this storyline play out. Even if it isn’t my personal favorite idea, it is undoubtedly an interesting and new direction for a Prey sequel to go in. It could also have fantastic execution that wins me over, making me realize that my vision of Prey 2 is wrong. Either way, it is exciting to see that Naru is back, raising the chances of Prey 2‘s existence.
