From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is continuing to trail behind. The Len Wiseman spinoff movie is the fifth installment in the John Wick franchise, taking place between the events of Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Chapter 4. Although Keanu Reeves does appear as the тιтle character of the franchise, the new movie largely focuses on the ballerina ᴀssᴀssin Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas). The Ballerina release kicked off on June 6 with a $24.5 million domestic opening weekend, which was the second lowest of the franchise behind the original John Wick ($14.4 million).
Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, as of Saturday morning, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is projected to take in a 3-day gross of $4.6 million by the end of its third weekend at the domestic box office. This will see it falling from No. 5 to No. 7 on the domestic chart as new releases such as 28 Years Later and Elio debut above it. However, its cumulative total has now reached $51.2 million, making it only the 17th movie of the year to surpᴀss the $50 million milestone in North America.
What This Means For Ballerina
It Still Can’t Stack Up To John Wick’s Sequels
With its current box office pace, Ballerina has stayed ahead of the original installment, which had only grossed a cumulative $34.8 million by the end of its third weekend in domestic theaters. However, it is still roughly as far behind each of that movie’s three sequels as it was during its opening weekend, failing to significantly close the gap between itself and any other тιтles, including the previous second lowest-grossing installment, Chapter 2. Below, see how Ballerina‘s domestic performance during its third weekend compares to the previous John Wick movies:
тιтle |
Domestic Opening Weekend |
Domestic Cume (Weekend 3) |
Worldwide Box Office |
---|---|---|---|
John Wick (2014) |
$14.4 million |
$34.8 million |
$86 million |
John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) |
$30.4 million |
$74.8 million |
$174.3 million |
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) |
$56.8 million |
$125.7 million |
$328.3 million |
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) |
$73.8 million |
$146.9 million |
$440.2 million |
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (2025) |
$24.5 million |
$51.2 million |
TBD |
If it continues on its current trajectory, the Ballerina box office will most likely end up below the $174.3 million earned by Chapter 2. This is not necessarily an issue financially, as Lionsgate covered a great deal of the movie’s reported $90 million budget with foreign pre-sales, as is their common practice. However, the movie will most likely end up maintaining a status as the second lowest-grossing installment. At best, it could land at the middle of the list, which would still be a comedown for the franchise after hitting its peak with Chapter 4 in 2023.
Our Take On The Ballerina Milestone
Action Movies In General Are Failing In 2025
Although From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is underperforming compared to previous installments in the franchise, its performance is comparable to a number of other 2025 action movies. The genre has so far failed to turn out any substantial hits over the course of the first half of the year, with тιтles including Thunderbolts*, The Amateur, and Captain America: Brave New World turning out disappointing results when compared to their large budgets. Therefore, the John Wick franchise may still have the power to turn out a hit in a more forgiving year.
