A new Netflix movie starring one of the leads of Squid Game is doing well on Rotten Tomatoes. The South Korean survival thriller Squid Game is one of the streaming service’s biggest original series of all time, with season 1’s 256.2 million views making it the most-watched season on the platform and season 2’s 192.6 million making it the third most-watched. The series, which was created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, follows a group of adults competing in ᴅᴇᴀᴅly children’s games for a big cash prize.
Because most of the core characters were killed over the course of season 1, there are very few members of the Squid Game cast who have appeared in both seasons. These core stars include Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun (Player 456), Wi Ha-joon as Detective Hwang Jun-ho, and Lee Byung-hun as Hwang In-ho (The Front Man). All three stars are also set to appear in the upcoming season 3, which is set to conclude the series.
KPop Demon Hunters Is Winning Over Critics
The Animated Genre Mashup Is Now Streaming
KPop Demon Hunters hit Rotten Tomatoes on the same day it debuted on Netflix. The animated movie is a musical-fantasy-comedy mashup that tells the tale of the KPop girl group Huntrix, a trio that moonlights as demon hunters and must face off against the demonic boy band Saja Boys. The KPop Demon Hunters cast includes Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo as the members of Huntrix, Ahn Hyo-seop, Joel Kim Booster, Alan Lee, and SunWon Cho as the Saja Boys, Ken Jeong as Huntrix’s manager, Daniel Dae Kim as Healer Han, and Byung-hun Lee as demon lord Gwi-Ma.
KPop Demon Hunters was directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans from a screenplay they co-wrote with Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan.
Rotten Tomatoes has now aggregated enough reviews to give the movie an official score on the Tomatometer. While it could fluctuate as more reviews are added, at the time of writing, KPop Demon Hunters has a solidly Fresh score of 92% from 12 different critics’ reviews. Its scored reviews generally rate it between 3 and 4 out of 5, indicating a mixed-to-positive response overall.
What This Means For KPop Demon Hunters
It Is One Of Netflix’s Best-Reviewed 2025 тιтles So Far
Ultimately, it is unclear how many reviews will be written for 2025’s KPop Demon Hunters, given that it is a relatively small release for Netflix unlike their blockbuster streaming тιтles such as Carry-On or Glᴀss Onion, which both ended up with more than 100 reviews apiece. However, if it gets enough reviews for it to be Certified Fresh and maintains its high score, it could be cemented as one of the streamer’s best-reviewed movies of the year, behind only Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, which debuted on the platform on January 3 and holds a perfect 100% score.
