I Still Can’t Help But Wonder What The MCU Actor Who Was Almost Cast As The DCEU’s Wonder Woman Would Have Been Like In The Role

While the DCEU has already concluded, there was contention for an MCU star to land the role of Wonder Woman before Gal Gadot was awarded the role, and it could have made for a very different DCEU. Long before the birth of the DCU, back in 2016, ahead of the release of Wonder Woman in 2017, Warner Bros. was actively developing their shared comic book universe. Meanwhile, the MCU was in the thick of their Infinity Saga, with just a few years left before Thanos would shake things up.

However, there could have been a deeper connection between these two shared universes. It’s not uncommon in Hollywood that multiple actors will audition for the same part, and when it came to the role of Wonder Woman, this was especially true. In addition to Gadot, who ended up playing the character in two solo films and the larger connected stories, actress Jaimie Alexander also auditioned for the part.

Jaimie Alexander Plays Sif In The MCU

Lady Sif Is A Powerful Warrior Goddess Who Fights Alongside Thor

While the name may not be very familiar, Jaimie Alexander’s face is one that will be easily recognizable to any fan of the MCU. From the start of the Thor sub-franchise, which debuted in 2011, Alexander was cast in the prominent role of Sif. While Thor and Sif clearly had a spark, Thor ended up developing a romantic connection with a human, which left his relationship with Sif complicated.

However, Lady Sif is a powerful independent warrior and leader among the Asgardians. She is strong, confident, and vastly intelligent. Alexander delivered this part with incredible skill and brought this Norse goddess to life. However, Alexander’s career could have played out differently considering the fact that she was being considered to play a key DCEU role.

Jaimie Alexander Was Reportedly In The Running For The DCEU’s Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman Could Have Had A Very Different Leading Lady

Back in 2016, Jaimie Alexander sat down for an interview with Variety discussing her career highlights. Of course, the discussion highlighted her time in the MCU, but it also referenced the fact that she was being considered to play Wonder Woman in the DCEU. Alexander certainly fits the bill as a strong woman who can command a scene, and her dark hair and light blue eyes match the typical iterations of the comic book superhero that is often portrayed as one of the Justice League.

I was one of a few people that were an obvious choice for Wonder Woman, but it was never going to happen. I’m contracted with Marvel and it would (be) strange. Sif, in her way, is Marvel’s Wonder Woman.

However, Alexander appears to push back on the idea that she ever had a serious sH๏τ at playing the part. However, the fact that Alexander was in contention at all speaks volumes about her talent as a performer. Especially due to the fact that she was indeed a notable part of the MCU, which could have had WB execs hesitant about extending the role to her. Still, had she been cast, the DCEU may have looked quite different.

I’m So Curious How The DCEU’s Wonder Woman Could Have Been Different If Jaimie Alexander Had Been Cast

Jaimie Alexander Is A Multi-Talented Actress

Gal Gadot did a fantastic job as Diana Prince in the DCEU. Her charisma, charm, and grace, combined with her ability to jump into battle and present a strong, powerful figure, perfectly captured her version of the character. But the great thing about film is the way that it can change and shift depending on the work of those involved. Presumably, many of the other creatives and castings would have stayed in place, but it could have also led to different castings to ensure Alexander’s chemistry was right.

With this in mind, there could have been some large cast changes in a version of Wonder Woman starring Alexander. In addition, thanks to her experience in the MCU as a warrior goddess, the production could have leaned more into the physicality and stunt work. This might have made for a more active and intense warrior version of the character. However, it’s hard to know for certain what would have changed about Wonder Woman had Jaimie Alexander landed the role instead of Gal Gadot.
