The Toxic Avenger Trailer Reveals Peter Dinklage’s Unconventional Hero Taking A Bloody Stand

The Toxic Avenger‘s official trailer offers a closer look at the backstory behind Peter Dinklage’s тιтular anti-hero. The new unrated movie from Bloody Disgusting stars Dinklage as Winston, a janitor who becomes a mutated superhero, Toxie, in a chemical incident. Alongside Jacob Tremblay, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Taylour Paige, and many others, the reboot movie will come to theaters on August 25.

Shared by IGN, the uncensored Toxic Avenger trailer unveils Toxie’s unconventional hero backstory, who lost his wife and is responsible for taking care of his stepson. However, unlike traditional heroes, Winston isn’t too keen to get himself involved in other people’s business until a chemical incident turns him into Toxie. As seen in the trailer, Toxie decides to take action and defend himself, which leads to him leaving a bloody trail behind. Check out the trailer below:

What This Means For Toxic Avenger

Toxic Avenger Tells A Wholesome Story

Toxic Avenger‘s trailer puts the unrated gore and violence in context. Toxie’s backstory further explains how he went from a janitor minding his own business to a monster and then a superhero. At the same time, the trailer teases the upcoming horror movie’s approach to combining gruesome kills with dark humor, hinting that even though the level of gore could potentially match and exceed Terrifier 3, Toxic Avenger tells a humorous, wholesome story about a single father who’s trying to do right by his kid.

In a previous interview, director Mason Blair teased that his second feature film would have the ingredients of an R-rated silly comedy. Sentimental and wholehearted are key vibes in the Toxic Avenger reboot. The uncensored official trailer unveils those traits that weren’t at the forefront in the bloody, commercial-inspired teaser trailer.

Our Take On The Toxic Avenger’s Official Trailer

It’s Drastically Different From The Teaser Trailer

Peter Dinklage's Toxic Avenger stands in a doorway wielding a mop in The Toxic Avenger 2025

The official trailer has a completely different tone compared to the previously released Toxic Avenger‘s teaser trailer. It’s relatable and heartfelt, which is the opposite of what the teaser trailer promised, and it only casts mystery over Blair’s upcoming horror feature. Toxie is clearly a different kind of hero, but his unique backstory makes him both comedic and easy to root for.

It’s worth mentioning that the 2025 Toxic Avenger reboot currently holds a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score from 25 reviews, with critics having praised the movie’s unhinged style and silliness. After watching both trailers, I have to say that I have no idea what the film will be like, which I will have to find out in theaters this summer.
