Spaceballs 2’s Genius Avengers Actor Casting Makes The Sequel More Exciting After 38 Years

Spaceballs 2 is finally on the way, and the recently-announced addition of this Avengers cast member makes the upcoming sequel even more exciting. By the time that Spaceballs 2 is released, it will have been 40 years since the original 1987 film, meaning that a lot has changed since Mel Brooks’ Star Wars parody first hit screens. While Spaceballs 2 will feature some returning cast members from the original comedy classic, some new additions will also join the cast, including this MCU star.

The first teaser for Spaceballs 2 is out now, with it parodying the iconic Star Wars scrolling text that starts out each of the mainline movies. Instead of feeding the audience exposition, however, Spaceballs 2‘s scrolling text lists the incredible amount of sequels, spinoffs, reboots, and other franchise projects that have occurred since the 1987 film was released. This gives audiences a perfect taste of what Spaceballs 2‘s satirical spin will be like, with this being a great sign for the future of the Mel Brooks comedy sequel.

Lewis Pullman’s Reported Spaceballs Role Has A Great Real-Life Connection

He Is Playing The Son Of Lone Starr

Several cast members for Spaceballs 2 have officially been announced, with some returning and one being new. Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, and Rick Moranis will be reprising their roles as Yogurt, Lone Starr, and Dark Helmet respectively, returning from the 1987 film. Meanwhile, Lewis Pullman will be playing a new character: the son of Lone Starr. This is an exciting addition to the cast of Spaceballs 2, and while his role in the story isn’t yet known, this is a big get for the sequel after the success of movies like Top Gun: Maverick and Thunderbolts.

Lewis Pullman’s Spaceballs character is exciting thanks to the fact that the actor is the real-life son of Lone Starr actor Bill Pullman. This means that the real-life father-and-son duo will be playing a Spaceballs father and son duo. This is something that is rarely seen, especially with two stars of this caliber. This is one of the most exciting pieces of Spaceballs 2 casting news yet, setting up the potential for a lot of meta jokes that the Mel Brooks film certaintly won’t let slip by unnoticed.

Lewis Pullman’s Spaceballs 2 Character Has A Great Parody Lined-Up

Based On The Sequel Trilogy

Most of the characters in 1987’s Spaceballs are direct parodies of Star Wars characters, with Lone Starr being Han Solo, Yogurt being Yoda, Pizza the Hutt being Jabba the Hutt, and so on. It is expected that this trend will continue with the new characters, with there being plenty of additions to the Star Wars prequels and sequels who could get parodied in the upcoming film. The teaser for Spaceballs 2 even directly mentions the prequel and sequel trilogy, meaning that they are at the front of mind of the filmmakers. So, if Spaceballs 2 is pulling from the sequels, there is one obvious character for Lewis Pullman to play.

Since Lewis Pullman is playing Lone Starr’s son, it only makes sense for this character to be a parody of Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren was the main villain of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, with him arguably being the trilogy’s most popular addition. In the sequels, he is also the son of Han Solo, the character that Lone Starr is parodying. So, introducing a major actor in the role of Lone Starr’s son seems like an obvious set up for a Kylo Ren parody in Spaceballs 2.

Spaceballs 2 Taking So Long Should Be A Good Thing

It Will Be A Better Parody For It

Spaceballs 2 isn’t releasing until 2027, with some fans being shocked at how far out the sequel is based on its trailer. However, this is actually a good thing. Giving Spaceballs 2 several years after the conclusion of the sequel trilogy allowed the film to get a read on the legacy of the sequels as well as the prequels, making it a more thoughtful parody. If Spaceballs 2 had happened sooner, it would have been before Lewis Pullman’s breakout, meaning that the double casting also wouldn’t have been possible.
