“I Would Never Say Zero”: James Gunn Keeps Door Open For Robert Pattinson To Join The DCU

The chances of seeing Robert Pattinson play the DC Universe’s version of Batman are still alive after a new update. There have been a lot of rumors about who will play the DCU’s Batman, ranging from names like The Boys star Jensen Ackles to 1923‘s Brandon Sklenar to even Robert Pattinson. The latter is expected to remain separate from the DCU’s Chapter One, starring in director Matt Reeves’ planned The Batman trilogy. However, it seems like there is still a chance that both franchises could merge.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, James Gunn kept the door open for Robert Pattinson to play the DCU Batman, though it is unlikely. According to Gunn, the chances of Pattinson leading Batman’s The Brave and the Bold movie for the DCU are higher than zero, saying, “You just never know.” However, that does not mean that the director is teasing it will definitely come to pᴀss as Gunn claims, “It’s not likely at all.” What is known for sure is that while The Batman 2 script is taking a long time, the movie is not canceled. Check out the full quote below:

I would never say zero, because you just never know. But it’s not likely. It’s not likely at all. I’ll also say Batman Part II is not canceled. That’s the other thing I hear all the time — that Batman Part II is canceled. It’s not canceled. We don’t have a script. Matt’s slow. Let him take his time. Let him do what he’s doing. God, people are mean. Let him do his thing, man.”

What James Gunn’s New Robert Pattinson Comments Mean For The DCU Batman

The Batman Universe Could Provide The DCU With The Perfect Bruce Wayne Casting

Rumors about Robert Pattinson joining the DCU have been going on for the past year. While the actor is 39, eight years older than Superman actor David Corenswet, Pattinson fits the franchise’s idea for Bruce Wayne. After all, the Dark Knight will be a father to Damian Wayne in The Brave and the Bold, with more members of the Bat-Family set to appear in the film. At 39, Pattinson could realistically portray that version of Batman, which would allow the DCU to make it starkly different from Reeves’ The Batman franchise.

In The Batman, Pattinson’s Dark Knight was still early in his career as a hero. The DCU’s version of Batman will be more experienced, and if Pattinson were to play both, that is how DC could distinguish the franchises. Gunn’s comments leave the door open for Pattinson to play the DCU’s Batman, but the director also seems to believe that the best path is to cast a new actor, as DC remains confident in Matt Reeves’ plans for The Batman Universe. The option to use Pattinson is there, but it is not at the forefront of Gunn’s mind.

Our Take On James Gunn’s New Robert Pattinson DCU Batman Comments

The Dark Knight’s DCU Future Promises To Be Exciting

Based on Gunn’s comments, I believe that while the door is open for Robert Pattinson to play the DCU’s Batman, there is still a bigger chance that a new actor will be cast for the role. Since Matt Reeves has said in the past that he prefers his franchise to stand separate from the DCU, using Pattinson in both would conflict with the director’s vision. With Gunn not having a problem related to how long it is taking for Reeves to finish The Batman 2 script, I believe he will also keep the Batman movie franchises separate.
