Where To Watch 28 Years Later: Showtimes & Streaming Status

28 Years Later reboots the post-apocalyptic horror series that started in 2002, and here’s everything you need to know about how to watch it, whether in theaters or on streaming. Written by Alex Garland and directed by Danny Boyle, who were both behind the original 28 Days Later, the upcoming film follows a father and son who leave their isolated island refuge to confront the hidden dangers and secrets of the infected mainland. The film is intended to serve as the start of a planned trilogy, which already includes 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta.

28 Years Later introduces a new cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Alfie Williams as the father and son, alongside Jodie Comer, three-time Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, Edvin Ryding, Emma Laird, and more. The movie hails from Sony Pictures, after the first two films were released through 20th Century Fox. Since Sony is the only major film studio without a dedicated streaming service, 28 Years Later is set to receive a full theatrical release. However, viewers will still have the chance to watch the movie at home later on different platforms.

28 Years Later Releases In Theaters On June 20, 2025

The Post-Apocalyptic Horror Movie Opens Exclusively In Theaters

Sony Pictures is giving 28 Years Later an exclusive theatrical release starting June 20, 2025. As is common with most movie premieres, early preview showings will start the day before, on Thursday. The movie runs for one hour and 55 minutes and is rated R due to strong bloody violence, grisly images, graphic nudity, language, and brief Sєxuality. According to the movie’s official website, 28 Years Later will be available in several premium formats, including 4DX, which offers an immersive theater experience that can’t be replicated at home. The movie is also showing in Dolby Cinema and ScreenX.

When Will 28 Years Later Release On Streaming?

It Will Be On Netflix

Since 28 Years Later is a Sony Pictures production, it will eventually be available on Netflix, since the studio and streaming service signed an exclusive partnership in 2021. Though neither party has announced when 28 Years Later will release on Netflix, the timeline for past films has been rather consistent. For example, past Sony movies such as It Ends With Us, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, The Garfield Movie, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Anyone But You, The Equalizer 3, and No Hard Feelings all took four months from their theatrical release to reach Netflix.

On average, there’s about a 111-day gap between a Sony movie’s theatrical release and its debut on Netflix, which suggests 28 Days Later could arrive on the platform in October 2025. However, if it does exceptionally well at the box office like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the movie might not show up on Netflix until five months later in November. If you don’t mind waiting a few months, streaming could be a convenient way to catch 28 Years Later.

When Will 28 Years Later Release On Digital?

This Will Be The First Opportunity To Watch At Home

Aaron Taylor Johnson in 28 Years Later

The earliest opportunity to watch 28 Years Later at home will be when it’s released digitally. Again, Sony’s release strategy has been consistent, as It Ends With Us, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, The Garfield Movie, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and The Equalizer 3 were available digitally about 45 days after their theatrical debuts. If the studio sticks to its usual 45-day window between theatrical and digital releases for its tentpole тιтles, 28 Days Later should arrive digitally around late July to early August.
