I Know What You Did Last Summer Trailer Sees Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Julie Come Face-To-Face With The New Fisherman

The new I Know What You Did Last Summer trailer offers more context for the plot of the eagerly anticipated 2025 reboot. The upcoming 2025 sequel is set to follow in the footsteps of 2018’s Halloween and 2022’s Scream by bringing a blend of returning legacy characters and new stars to the franchise. Directed by Do Revenge’s Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer stars Madelyn Cline of Glᴀss Onion: A Knives Out Mystery as Danica Richards. A year after she and her friends cover up a fatal car accident, Danica is targeted by a mysterious hook-wielding killer with murder on their minds.

Recently, Sony released a new trailer for the upcoming horror sequel. I Know What You Did Last Summer’s trailer provides new insight into the reboot’s main characters, revealing that Danica and her love interest are planning a wedding when she receives a threatening note. The group is thrown into disarray as they attempt to work out who could have discovered their cover-up and what they want from them. In addition, the trailer introduces a slew of supporting characters who could be the killer. Check it out below:

I Know What You Did Last Summer Brings Back Major Original Movie Stars

Ray & Julie Have More Prominent Roles Than Expected

The new trailer features some of the same footage from the first one, but it does provide more context about the characters and the consequences. In particular, the new trailer shows more of the returning stars, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, reprising their roles of Ray and Julie, respectively. While their casting was known for a while, it was unclear the extent of their appearances in the upcoming sequel.

Now, the new trailer seems to hint that at least Ray may be a prominent character in the legacy sequel. One of the newer footage shows the young cast reaching out to Ray, who then appears later in the trailer holding a gun. In addition, Julie is also speaking with Ava Brucks (Chase Sui Wonders), advising her on how to take down the menacing fisherman before being confronted by them later on. Furthermore, the new trailer teases some of the fisherman’s tricks to trap the younger cast, including one part where Ava gets caged in a shop.

Our Take On I Know What You Did Last Summer Trailer

It Actually Looks Really Good

Madelyn Cline and four other looking horrified on a road in I Know What You Did Last Summer

Based on the new trailer, I Know What You Did Last Summer actually looks pretty intriguing, especially as it uncovers the story of the younger cast. It also hints that the sequel isn’t losing the best qualities of the original slasher franchise, while still attempting to elevate the content, whether it be the horror itself or the cast.

However, one of the biggest surprises is how much Ray and Julie are featured in the trailer. The first I Know What You Did Last Summer trailer only showed a few seconds of the original characters, but the new footage hints that they may have bigger roles. Nevertheless, the upcoming legacy sequel may live up to its hype, as the direction is making all the right decisions thus far.
