Brad Pitt’s New Racing Movie Debuts With Solid Rotten Tomatoes Score (But It’s No Top Gun: Maverick)

Brad Pitt has been a consistent presence in blockbuster action movies for the better part of the past two decades. Though he first rose to fame for his dramatic roles during the 1990s – such as in A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall, Interview with the Vampire, Seven, and Fight Club – Pitt found further commercial success by starring in the Ocean’s trilogy and solidified his status as a leading man in blockbuster action movies like Troy, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and World War Z.

Known for his cool and charismatic performances in an array of films, Pitt won his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as stuntman Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Pitt also received Oscar nominations for his performances in 12 Monkeys, The Curious Case of Benjamin ʙuттon, and Moneyball. Though he’s recently made some comments flirting with the prospect of retirement, Pitt doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon, with several action movies on the way, including F1 and David Ayer’s Heart of the Beast.

F1 The Movie Debuts With A Solid Rotten Tomatoes Score

It Premiered On June 16

F1 The Movie has debuted with a solid Rotten Tomatoes score. From the director and co-writer of Top Gun: Maverick, Joseph Kosinski and Ehren Kruger, the new racing movie stars Brad Pitt as former Formula One driver Sonny Hayes, who comes out of retirement to mentor a rookie prodigy, Joshua “Noah” Pearce (played by Damon Idris) for the fictional Apex Grand Prix team. The cast also includes Oscar nominee Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Oscar winner Javier Bardem.

Now, following its premiere at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 16, F1 The Movie has debuted with an 81% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is solid, but falls well short of Top Gun: Maverick‘s 96%. The new movie has 48 reviews at the time of writing, and its score is expected to fluctuate as more are published. It doesn’t yet have an audience score, though it will begin to take shape once the movie releases in theaters later this month.

What F1’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Means For The Movie

What Are The Reviews Saying?

F1 The Movie‘s Rotten Tomatoes score means that its reviews are mostly positive. For instance, in ScreenRant‘s F1 The Movie review, Mae Abdulbaki writes, “This adrenaline-fueled sports drama will change your mind about F1 racing if you weren’t already a fan… It might be a Formula One promotional movie at its core, but at least it’s a damn good film.” Otherwise, the reviews are praising its exhilarating racing sequences, dazzling visuals, and blockbuster spectacle.

While F1 The Movie might not quite reach the heights of Top Gun: Maverick, it’s still a thrilling crowd-pleaser that should have audiences racing to theaters.

Many critics highlight Brad Pitt’s star power and Joseph Kosinski’s high-octane direction. However, a few criticize the film’s formulaic, clichéd story and underdeveloped characters, calling it more style than substance. Overall, it’s seen as entertaining but not groundbreaking. While F1 The Movie might not quite reach the heights of Top Gun: Maverick, it’s still a thrilling crowd-pleaser that should have audiences racing to theaters.

F1 The Movie releases in theaters on June 27, during the weekend of the Austrian Grand Prix.
