Digital Release Date Revealed For The MCU Movie That Made Us “More Excited About The Franchise’s Future” Than We’ve Been In Years

Marvel officially announces Thunderbolts*‘ digital and physical release dates as the MCU prepares to launch its next saga. Released on May 2, 2025, Jake Schreier’s Thunderbolts* marks the second theatrical release of Marvel’s 2025 slate, roughly two months after Captain America: Brave New World and roughly three months before The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Thunderbolts* gathers a group of criminals and redeems each of them just in time for the team to become the world’s new generation of heroes.

As the theatrical run of the New Avengers’ team-up movie comes to an end, Marvel confirms that Thunderbolts* will be available on digital July 1, and on 4K UHD™, BLU-RAY™ and DVD JULY 29, 2025. Thunderbolts* can be streamed on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango starting July the 1st. And as is usual with Marvel releases, the digital, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray versions of Thunderbolts* include exclusive content such as deleted scenes, a gag reel, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and filmmaker commentary by director Jake Schreier. Likewise, there will be a limited-edition SteelBook® available for the 4K Ultra HD edition of the movie, which includes official custom artwork and premium packaging.

What The Thunderbolts* Digital And Physical Release Dates Mean

Thunderbolts* Continues To Gather A Devoted Fanbase On Smaller Screens

Thunderbolts‘ digital and physical release dates follow a similar pattern to recent Marvel Studios тιтles like Captain America: Brave New World and ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine. A two-month theatrical window allows each movie to make its full impact in theaters while building anticipation for its home release. Thunderbolts*, in particular, may become a hit in the home media market, as Jake Schreier’s Phase 5 movie is packed with with details that can be better enjoyed on multiple rewatches.

Key elements like Bob Reynolds’ full Sentry costume and the Void’s mind-bending sequences are thrilling to watch on the big screen, but they warrant a closer look. Additionally, Thunderbolts*‘ behind-the-scenes featurettes and deleted scenes will likely offer insight into the film’s production. Like many other Multiverse Saga projects, Thunderbolts* underwent numerous changes during development, including the recasting of Sentry from Steven Yeun to Lewis Pullman. This July, Thunderbolts*‘ bonus content may reveal alternate takes, unused storylines, and early designs that were ultimately cut.

Our Take On The Thunderbolts* Digital And Physical Release Date

Thunderbolts* Holds An Essential Spot In The MCU’s Timeline

Thunderbolts*‘ digital and physical release might be especially valuable for fans looking to revisit and closely study an MCU installment that may soon become essential viewing. The New Avengers’ first team-up movie not only delivers an emotional story about Marvel heroes’ inner struggles, but also lays the foundations for the franchise’s next chapter. At this point in the MCU’s overarching story, Thunderbolts* serves as the Multiverse Saga equivalent of Phase 1’s The Avengers, given that it introduces a brand-new superhero team and establishes the core dynamics between each member. After upcoming releases like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, Thunderbolts* might eventually be considered a structural cornerstone for the whole MCU.
