Three A24 movies have received streaming release dates, including Jenna Ortega’s Death of a Unicorn. Directed by Alex Scharfman, the 2025 horror comedy stars Ortega as Ridley and Paul Rudd as her father, Elliot, who accidentally hit a unicorn on his way to his boss’s house. Revolving around the aftermath of the incident, Will Poulter plays Shepard Leopold, an antagonist who, along with his father, wants to exploit the magical creature for their own gain.
Three A24 movies that have concluded their theatrical runs will arrive on Max exclusively in July due to their multi-year deal. Death of a Unicorn will arrive on the streaming platform on July 25, followed by a linear debut on HBO the following day at 8 p.m. ET. Similarly, Opus, which is set to arrive on Max on July 11 and debut on HBO at 8 p.m. ET the following day. On Becoming a Guinea Fowl will come to Max on July 4 and debut on HBO on July 7 during the same time slot.
What This Means For A24 Fans
New Movies Could Begin Arriving On Max Four Months From Their Theatrical Release Dates
The A24 and HBO multi-year deal was announced at the end of 2023. While older A24 films may be found on Paramount+ with Showtime, Max has become the new streaming home for a good collection of the studio’s movies. Opus, Death of Unicorn, and On Becoming a Guinea Fowl follow Parthenope as the new batch to arrive on Max. They will join the platform’s large collection that includes many of the studio’s most well-known тιтles, including Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Zone of Interest.
Death of the Unicorn was released on March 28, while Opus arrived in theaters on March 14, and On Becoming a Guinea Fowl arrived on March 7, 2024. Except for the Susan Chardy-led comedy drama, the streaming debut dates for the other two movies are all four months from their theatrical runs, which means that popular тιтles that are currently in theaters or have recently ended their theatrical runs follow the same pattern.
Our Take On The Three A24 Movies’ Max Arrival
On Becoming A Guinea Fowl Is Not One To Miss
A24 has many fabulous releases this year, including the new rom-com Materialists that stars Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal in a messy love triangle. Since most of the studio’s theatrical releases are expected to arrive on Max, the three new streaming additions are only the beginning. Those who missed out on the three movies’ theatrical runs would soon be able to stream the тιтles from the comfort of their home.
The Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega horror comedy, Death of a Unicorn, has received largely positive reviews from moviegoers, despite having divided critics. Though Opus didn’t land well in terms of reception, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl received high praise from fans and critics alike. However, the top-rated movie missed out on the box office at the time due to having a limited release followed by a continuous rollout. Its arrival on Max could make the тιтle accessible to more movie lovers.
