Rachel Zegler’s Disney Remake Becoming A Streaming Hit Is The Fairest Outcome Of Them All After Disappointing $205M Box Office

Disney’s live-action Snow White remake is now on Disney+, and its streaming success is the best outcome after the Rachel Zegler remake struggled at the box office. While many of Disney’s live-action remakes have received criticisms, 2025’s Snow White was one of the most negatively received ones. Snow White‘s handling of the Seven Dwarfs, altered story, visuals, and more led to it being one of the most panned movies of 2025 so far. On top of that, Snow White was a box office failure so bad that Disney paused production on some future live-action remakes.

Unfortunately, Snow White star Rachel Zegler was caught in the crossfire of criticisms of the remake. Many people online unfairly criticized Zegler’s role in the film, pinning the failure of many factors that she had nothing to do with on her. On top of that, Zegler was the target of racist attacks from online trolls, and her statements in support of Palestinians caused more controversy surrounding Snow White. The online conversation around Zegler oftentimes overshadowed the discussion around Snow White, and the talented actress deserves much better than what she was subjected to throughout Snow White‘s marketing.

Rachel Zegler Is Fantastic In Snow White – And Deserved A Hit Movie

She Was The Best Part Of The Remake

Although there was definitely a lot wrong with Snow White, Rachel Zegler was undoubtedly the best part. Zegler has always stood out in her movies, whether that be during her debut performance in West Side Story or when she gave great performances in otherwise mediocre movies like Y2K or Shazam! Fury of the Gods. In Snow White, Zegler’s performance has a lot of heart, allowing her to feel like the true Disney Princess she is playing. On top of that, her musical performance is fantastic, with her having the best songs in the remake.

Sadly, Zegler was a stand-out in a movie that had a lot of apparent flaws, leading to the box office failure of Snow White. The film made only $205.6 million against a budget of around $270 million, meaning that it lost a lot of money for Disney. This is unfortunate, because Zegler really could have used a box office hit. Almost all of Rachel Zegler’s movies have been box office disappointments, with the only exception being The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. However, even that was the lowest grossing movie in The Hunger Games franchise.

Rachel Zegler Is On A Great Musical Streak

That Started With West Side Story

Although Snow White wasn’t a great movie overall, it does continue Rachel Zegler’s great musical streak. The actress gives a great performance in the film, with her making many of the film’s new and old songs her own. Snow White follows up on the success of Rachel Zegler’s 2023 success, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. While this film wasn’t a musical, Zegler does sing in it, leading to some of the prequel’s most memorable moments.

All of these movies stem from Rachel Zegler’s incredible performance in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 West Side Story remake. This film is considered to be one of the best musical movie adaptations of all time and one of the best films in Spielberg’s recent years. It was also Rachel Zegler’s feature film debut, with the actress getting picked after auditioning from an open casting call. Zegler is the highlight of West Side Story, and many are hopeful to see her musical successes continue in the future.

What’s Rachel Zegler Doing Next?

A Musical & Another Movie

As of the writing of this article, Rachel Zegler’s next movie role after Snow White has not been confirmed. It has been announced that she will be starring alongside Marisa Tomei in a comedy drama movie тιтled She Gets It From Me, although no release date has been revealed (via Variety). The actress is also currently performing in a summer 2025 revival of the musical Evita, in which she is playing the тιтle character. So, Zegler still has a promising future after the failure of Snow White.
