Ridley Scott’s Bee Gees Biopic Update Reveals Filming Start Window & New Plot Details

Ridley Scott reveals the plot details and filming window for his unтιтled Bee Gees biopic. Based on the real-life story of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb and their rise to fame in the disco music era in the mid-to-late 1970s, Scott was in talks with Paramount Studios about the film last year. Due to a budgetary contract dispute with the studio, it was announced earlier this year that Scott’s next movie wouldn’t be the biopic.

In an interview with Collider, Scott confirms the filming window and shares some details about his upcoming Bee Gees biopic. The director shared that he’s expecting to go into production “in November.” He added that he didn’t think his dispute with Paramount would affect the project in the long term. In terms of the story, Scott explained that the brotherhood is what he’s interested in exploring the most. Read his comments below:

It’s really about the brothers and how close the brothers were as a gifted family. They’re really very much a family. I think Barry very much was the leader of them, but then Robin also had the voice initially and was also a very good writer. They were a fulfilled team. It is lovely to see this drawn out from scratch. We’ll go from eight years old to the end.

What Ridley Scott’s Comments Mean For The Bee Gees Biopic

Ridley Scott Already Has Some Names In Mind

The Bee Gees are responsible for creating some of the most defining tracks of the disco era, including “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” “You Should Be Dancing,” and many more. While their ascension to stardom will always be a story worth telling, Scott seems to have his own unique take on the brothers’ journey, centering around creative union and brotherhood. His planned biopic won’t focus purely on fame and music, but will tell a humanly relatable story “from eight years old to the end.”

With the movie expected to go into production in five months or so, casting information might come sooner than expected. In fact, the director already has a few names in mind. In the same interview, Scott teased that he has already put in the “requests” on “those names,” though at this time, he “can’t say who they are.” It sounds like an announcement won’t be too far off.

Our Take On Ridley Scott’s Bee Gees Biopic

It Can Be A Refreshing Take On The Music Biopic Genre

Biopics in the music space are a new territory for Ridley Scott, who has tackled various genres from historical period dramas, including Napoleon, to sci-fi blockbusters, but has purposely steered clear of the music biopic genre due to the complexities of a person’s life and the historical accuracy requirements. It sounds like Scott would take great care of the material at hand.

Executive produced by Barry Gibbs, the lone surviving member of the trio, with Scott, who also serves as a producer, at the helm, the Bee Gees biopic will see the Ridley Scott movie diving deep into the lives of the three brothers. In fact, the plot details of the upcoming movie already seem to set it apart from other entries in the genre, given that biopics about popular musicians often revolve around fame and the trouble with fame, which doesn’t seem like the main theme in the upcoming movie.
