Tom Hiddleston Addresses Whether The Loki Season 2 Ending Sets Up Avengers: Doomsday

Loki’s surprise return in Avengers: Doomsday has been addressed by one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most beloved stars. Loki season 2 ended with Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief having a major role change, as he became the MCU’s God of Stories, protecting the multiverse from that point forward. While that seemed like an ending to the character’s story, Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast announcement included the surprise reveal that Hiddleston would be back for at least one of the MCU’s upcoming projects. Now, the actor has spoken about what Loki season 2 set up and his MCU future.

On Jimmy Kimmel Live, Tom Hiddleston commented on returning as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday and addressed whether Loki season 2’s ending will play a major role in the upcoming film.

Kimmel noted how Loki was holding all the timelines of the multiverse in Loki season 2’s ending, to which Hiddleston claimed he still is, as no Marvel project has shown otherwise. However, when asked about whether that could be the key element of Loki’s story in Avengers: Doomsday, the MCU star deflected. What Hiddleston revealed is that while he knew he was in Avengers: Doomsday, he had no idea about Marvel’s surprise live-stream to reveal the cast. Check out the full quote below:

“Kimmel: Loki was holding all the timelines in the multiverse…

Hiddleston: Still is…I mean, we haven’t seen him do anything different.

Kimmel: Is this going to be a major part of Avengers: Doomsday?

Hiddleston: See this is where I run out of rope, Jimmy. We always do this dance, you and me. I can exclusively tell you…I will be there. There was the big thing they released of all the names on the back of the chairs, I didn’t know, I was like, ‘Oh I guess I’m in the movie.’ In fairness, I did know I was in the movie. But I am so used to not knowing ‘I’m in the movie.'”

What Tom Hiddleston’s Avengers: Doomsday Comments Mean

The MCU Has Set Up Loki’s Perfect Role For The Avengers Movie

It makes sense that Hiddleston would not reveal what Loki’s role will be in Avengers: Doomsday‘s story. After all, aside from the characters that will appear and how Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is the film’s main villain, Avengers: Doomsday details are scarce. Marvel is trying to keep the movie’s story under wraps, so as an MCU veteran, Hiddleston revealed nothing of substance. However, Kimmel was right to question the actor about how Loki season 2’s ending could play a key role in the movie.

In the MCU series, Loki decides to sacrifice himself, being destined to be alone for eternity, in exchange for the power to keep the multiverse safe and see to it that his friends can live happy lives now that no Kang variants run the TVA and control the multiverse. Downey’s Doctor Doom takes the Beyonders’ power in the comics to create Battleworld and salvage what is left of the multiverse. In the MCU, given how Loki is the multiverse’s protector, that could lead to Doom trying to steal his powers, which would be a major spoiler if accurate.

Our Take On Tom Hiddleston’s Avengers: Doomsday Comments

Loki Season 2’s Ending Has To Play A Role In The MCU Movie

I never expected an MCU veteran like Tom Hiddleston to reveal major story elements from the next Avengers movie in an interview. That is especially the case here, since Loki season 2’s ending sets up his role in Avengers: Doomsday so perfectly, which means that anything Hiddleston says about it could be a mᴀssive spoiler. Given his new multiverse position and how Doctor Doom is the main villain of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, it is inevitable that there will be some kind of showdown between them, and I’m happy Hiddleston is keeping Avengers: Doomsday‘s story a secret for now.
