“Never Felt Like A Worse Actor In My Life”: Superman’s Lois Lane Star Reveals Biggest Challenge On New DC Movie

DC Universe Lois Lane star Rachel Brosnahan speaks about the biggest challenge she faced while filming the new Superman movie. A new era for the Man of Steel is about to begin this summer as James Gunn’s Superman is finally getting closer to arriving in theaters, while getting deeper into Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters.” While Superman is being rebooted for the big screen, so are many of the crucial characters in his mythology, Lois Lane being one of them.

In a new interview with S Magazine, Brosnahan, who is set to portray Lois Lane in the DCU franchise, shared insight into her experience shooting the Superman movie. For the first two days of filming, she worked alongside David Corenswet on certain Lois and Clark scenes, saying, “I was like, ‘Fun! Turns out superhero movies are just like all the other ones!'” Then more superhero theatrics were added in, and Brosnahan explained the challenge of working with CGI elements.

I’ve never felt like a worse actor in my life! We started hanging from wires, shooting with fake animals that weren’t actually there, and doing all sorts of other jazz that’ll get added in post. But it was great. You learn really quickly what you are and aren’t good at. If we do another one, I’m going to have to go to mime school and learn a thing or two about acting with invisible stuff—because that was a first for me.

What Rachel Brosnahan’s Superman CGI Comments Mean For The DCU Movie

For many actors in Hollywood, getting used to filming scenes that are heavily reliant on CGI is easier said than done, and it’s not a surprise that Brosnahan had that experience during Superman. With major productions like Superman, a mᴀssive superhero story dealing with sci-fi and fantasy elements, there are bound to be many scenes where actors have to use their imagination to get filming done, as things are added in post-production. The Superman movie trailers have already showcased multiple comic book elements that may have been some of the scenes Brosnahan referred to in her interview.

However, a huge takeaway from Brosnahan’s commentary is that she is eager to learn more, especially for future DCU installments that she may be involved with, including a hypothetical Superman sequel. The more CGI-heavy productions an actor gets involved with, the easier it gets over time. Hopefully, depending on what DCU movie or TV show Lois may appear in next, her time on Superman will have helped prepare her to take on new production elements that involve CGI.

While it definitely sounds like it was a challenge for Brosnahan, it will still be exciting to see some of the material she worked on as Lois in the Superman movie. With post-production work reaching its end, and the Superman movie’s rating finally being set, it won’t be long until the world gets to finally witness the finished product. But from everything that is known about Gunn’s Superman movie thus far, and what has been marketed about his film, the wait for the DCU film’s arrival next month will have been worth it.
