“Ruin Both Those Careers”: Chris Evans Gets Honest About His Post-Endgame Movies

Recently, Chris Evans got honest about the status of his movies following his exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers: Endgame. While the actor has starred in many movies over the years, Chris Evans is most notably known for playing the comic book superhero, Captain America, since 2011 and his time in the role has only elevated his career. As a result, Evans has appeared in quite a few movies following his character’s conclusive ending in Avengers: Endgame, starring alongside other big name actors like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Pedro Pascal, who has also recently joined Marvel.

In an interview with LadBible, Chris Evans got honest about his post-Endgame movies with co-stars, Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal, while promoting their upcoming romcom movie, Materialists. When Evans, Johnson, and Pascal were asked if they would rather “relive your most awkward interview once a day” or “let each other pick your next movie roles for the rest of your life,” the three actors chose the latter. Elaborating on his decision, Evans said “I’d always put you in the movies I’m doing” before joking that the action would “ruin both of those careers. Check out the full clip below:

What Chris Evans’ Comment Means

The Actor Is Self-Aware About His Current Streak

Chris Evans stated that by including Pedro Pascal and Dakota Johnson in his movies, it would “ruin” their careers. This comment comes after Chris Evans’ disappointing movie streak with movies like Red One following his success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since 2011, Evans has been playing a superhero straight out of the comics, prevailing in some of the most successful movies of all time. Evans’ final appearance as Captain America was in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which saw Steve Rogers hand the shield over to Sam Wilson. The movie earned a staggering $2.799 billion at the box office.

Chris Evans’ comment demonstrates an awareness of the current state of his own movies

However, since his departure from the famous role in the superhero franchise, Chris Evans’ movies have failed to live up to this legacy. Evans has seen some commercial success with smaller appearances in movies like Knives Out and ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine (reprising his role as Johnny Storm), yet the majority of films that Chris Evans has starred in following Avengers: Endgame have been box office flops or critically panned. With Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal’s careers somewhat smooth-sailing in comparison, Chris Evans’ comment demonstrates an awareness of the current state of his own movies, while recognizing his Materialists co-stars’ success.

Our Take On Chris Evans’ Post-Endgame Career

Chris Evans’ MCU Career Is Hard To Live Up To

Living up to such an impressive legacy was always going to be difficult as Chris Evans moved away from his role as Captain America, considering the MCU has earned billions at the box office over the last decade. Therefore, Chris Evans’ decision to move into action roles, like with Red One, was a safe one, due to his previous experience in the genre. However, unfortunately, the execution of these stories often fell flat, which has nothing to do with Chris Evans’ skills as an actor, as he had proven his worth in his career prior to appearing in Marvel films.

While Chris Evans may relive his MCU success with his Avengers: Doomsday return in 2027, a move into the romantic comedy genre might also be a good choice. Evans’ loveable personality off-screen definitely shines through in these types of films, which have previously met mixed reviews. That being said, Materialists could boost Evans’ career by revitalizing his previous reputation, especially as well-known names like Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal are also co-starring. Therefore, Chris Evans’ comments about “ruining” his co-stars’ careers may actually prove the complete opposite result with 2025’s Materialists.
