James Gunn Addresses Rumors About Studio Interference With DCU’s Superman Movie & Teases Its Post-Credits Scene

As the Superman movie’s post-credits scene gets addressed by James Gunn, the DC Studios co-CEO also comments on rumors about studio interference on the DC Universe film. The wait for the Man of Steel’s cinematic return is almost over, as Gunn’s Superman movie is getting closer to its theatrical release, with the summer blockbuster set to be one of the most crucial DCU installments for the newly launched franchise. While details such as the Superman movie rating have been confirmed, additional elements of the film are also getting properly established by Gunn himself.

When fans recently took to Threads to ask Gunn about the recent listings for Superman’s runtime, the DCU director not only confirmed the film’s length, but also stated that the movie will have a post-credits scene, sharing, “Yes. Inclusive of credits/post credits the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes.” With a fan also asking if there was “any truth that WB forced you to make it shorter,” Gunn made sure to address rumors about this matter as well. Check it out below:

Superman Movie Post-Credits Scene And Studio Interference Rumors Addressed By James Gunn

According to Gunn, there is “zero truth to that,” with the DC Studios co-CEO stressing that “they couldn’t even if that’s something that they wanted to. It’s a DC Studios film.” Gunn previously stated on May 28 that the film is almost a lock, as “we’re just finishing a couple VFX sH๏τs over the weekend” on the new Superman movie.

What James Gunn’s Comments Mean For The DC Universe Superman Movie

With a major blockbuster film like Gunn’s Superman movie, there are bound to be rumors and rumblings online that get traction, especially when it comes to studio involvement. However, what is crucial to remember with Gunn’s latest comments about Superman and how this is a DC Studios film is that this is a significantly different scenario from Warner Bros. Discovery’s previous DC Films era. DC Films was never a full-on studio and was instead a division under Warner Bros. Discovery, while DC Studios exists as its own enтιтy, as previously shared by Gunn in 2023:

This makes the DCU and DCEU notably different from one another, especially with Gunn and his DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran in charge of the latter. This is also why anything regarding runtimes and post-credits scenes will be based on what DC Studios wants, which naturally includes the Superman movie.

While it’s exciting to hear that Superman has a post-credits scene, it’s even more encouraging to hear Gunn properly set the record straight on how the film’s creative direction, including the length, was based on the decisions of DC Studios rather than this being a Warner Bros. Discovery mandate. Hopefully, this serves to set a promising precedent for the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” when it comes to future movies and shows. But before fans can get there, they will first have to catch Superman in theaters, starting on July 11.
