Wicked 2 Trailer Reactions: Fans Are “Sobbing” Over A Loaded Line & Can’t Wait To See Elphaba Go Full MCU On The Wizard

The first trailer for Wicked: For Good is already getting strong reactions from audiences. The movie will follow up last year’s successful Wicked, which covered the first act of the stage musical of the same name. This first movie did incredibly well in theaters, making over $756 million worldwide. Releasing on November 21, 2025 — in a similar timeframe as Wicked released last year — For Good is also positioned to be a box office hit.

Now, the first audience reactions are in for Wicked: For Good. Viewers were in awe of the Thor-like treatment Elphaba was given, as she summoned her broom like Thor summoning his hammer. Others were deeply moved by the line in the trailer in which Glinda says “I’ve had so many friends, but only one that mattered in reference to her relationship with Elphaba. Check out some of the social media responses below:

What This Means For Wicked: For Good

The Trailer Was Able To Knock It Out With The Emotional Tone

The reactions to Wicked: For Good speak to how much of an emotional journey the second film will be. Whereas Wicked‘s ending was uplifting and defiant, the second act is where the sancтιтy of the duo’s relationship begins to crumble as Elphaba and Glinda experience complexities in their relationship like never before. Elphaba also endures new challenges as the public perception of her suffers and the citizens of Oz demonize her, as witnessed in the trailer. The “only one that mattered” line really sums up the intensity of their bond, and it is one that audiences already resonate with.

Several people have already been commenting on the LGBTQ+ undertones of Wicked. While this has been talked about concerning the book and the stage musical, the idea that there might be a romantic element to Elphaba and Glinda’s relationship floated into the discourse again upon the movie’s release last year. While the actors have seemingly confirmed the characters’ relationship to be platonic, the hand-holding and the emotional nature of the trailer are good reasons for some fans to view their bond as a form of lesbian representation.

Our Take On The Wicked: For Good Trailer Reaction

Wicked Is Making Its Own Powerful Franchise

Elphaba grabs her broom in Wicked For Good

I find it particularly fascinating to hear fans compare Elphaba to Thor. Wicked is quickly becoming its own franchise phenomenon, with the first movie raking in more worldwide than several recent MCU films. There have even been some whisperings of making a Wicked 3, as there are more novels in Gregory Maguire’s series. Whether these will come to fruition remains unknown, but even if they don’t, the Thor comparison is a unique way to highlight the unique hype surrounding Wicked: For Good, and the IP as a whole.
