Julianne Moore addresses whether she is returning in Jurᴀssic World Rebirth. The Oscar-winning actress starred in 1997’s The Lost World: Jurᴀssic Park as Dr. Sarah Harding, a behavioral paleontologist and the love interest of Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), who convinces him to go to Isla Sorna. However, she hasn’t been seen or mentioned in the franchise since. The upcoming Jurᴀssic World Rebirth is set to introduce an all-new cast of characters played by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and more, as they infiltrate the forbidden island of Ile Saint-Hubert.
Talking to ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley on the red carpet for her new movie Echo Valley, Julianne Moore was asked if she will be returning in Jurᴀssic World Rebirth. She said she is “definitely not” in the upcoming installment and asked if she will return later on down the line, she said it’s uncertain and not up to her. Read her full responses below:
Yeah… I’m not in it. I’m definitely not… Who knows? Once again, out of my control.
What Julianne Moore’s Comments Mean For Her Jurᴀssic Park Return
Dr. Sarah Harding Isn’t Coming Back Soon
Julianne Moore starred in The Lost World: Jurᴀssic Park as Sarah Harding, an animal behaviorist and Dr. Ian Malcolm’s girlfriend, who convinces him to embark on an adventure to Isla Sorna. However, Sarah’s fate following The Lost World remains unknown, as she has not appeared or been mentioned in the franchise since, including in Jurᴀssic Park III and the Jurᴀssic World trilogy. This is somewhat surprising since Dr. Ian Malcolm, Laura Dern’s Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant all returned in Jurᴀssic World: Dominion.
It makes sense that Moore isn’t returning in Rebirth since, right now, there are no characters known to be returning in the reboot, including Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing. Instead, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth is introducing an all-new cast of characters. This includes Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett, an undercover agent who is enlisted by a pharmaceutical firm to join forces with Jonathan Bailey’s paleontologist, Dr. Henry Loomis, and Mahershala Ali’s mission leader, Duncan Kincaid, on a highly classified operation on the restricted island of Ile Saint-Hubert.
Our Take On Julianne Moore Not Returning In Jurᴀssic World Rebirth
Excluding Legacy Characters Is One Of Its Biggest Strengths
Jurᴀssic World Rebirth‘s decision to leave legacy characters behind may be its boldest and smartest move yet. By introducing an entirely new cast unburdened by past continuity, the film is free to chart a fresh narrative course, unshackled by nostalgia or fan service. This clean slate should allow Rebirth to redefine the franchise for a new generation, with original storylines, character arcs, and thematic depth that doesn’t rely on familiar faces to carry the weight of the Jurᴀssic legacy.
Jurᴀssic World Rebirth releases in theaters on July 2.
