Black Panther 3 gets an update from Ryan Coogler regarding Denzel Washington being brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back in November 2024, the world learned a big surprise from Denzel Washington about Black Panther 3 when he revealed that he was being lined up to appear in the sequel. While Marvel Studios has not formally announced Black Panther 3, it appears the idea of getting Washington into the upcoming sequel is further closing in on becoming a reality.

During a new interview on the 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony show, Coogler was asked about Washington’s Black Panther 3 comments and if there was anything he could add about bringing in the iconic Hollywood star for the next installment. While being surprised Washington had mentioned it, Coogler stressed that this is something they have been discussing “for a long time,” as he shared the following:

I’ve been trying to work with him since day one, I think he’s the greatest living actor. And in terms of what he means to our culture, forget about it. I’ve been talking to him about this for a long time, and I was surprised when he mentioned it. But it’s not like it’s not true.

What Ryan Coogler’s Denzel Washington Casting Comments Mean For Black Panther 3

When it comes to the matter of Denzel Washington referencing his prospective role in Black Panther 3, it makes sense that Ryan Coogler, along with the rest of the world, would be pleasantly surprised about these comments coming as early as they did. Not only is this movie not something that Marvel Studios has fully announced yet, but having a huge Black Panther 3 casting addition like Washington is something that likely otherwise wouldn’t have been revealed until things were more solidified about the sequel. Casting an actor of Washington’s caliber is a mᴀssive deal, especially for a Black Panther trilogy finale.

From everything Washington has accomplished in his tremendous career, bringing him into the MCU would mean Marvel Studios is adding one of the most legendary stars in Hollywood. Many who have followed the Black Panther franchise will also know the impact that Washington had on the late Chadwick Boseman, which makes his addition to Black Panther 3 incredibly bittersweet. Overall, Coogler’s comments about the matter seem incredibly promising, especially if this is something that both Coogler and Washington have been discussing back and forth for a while.

From everything Coogler has shared about the prospects of having Washington in Black Panther 3, it will be fascinating to see what role the actor will end up having. Whether or not Black Panther 3 happens before The Multiverse Saga’s conclusion or after remains to be seen, as the sequel currently doesn’t have a release date, which would justify the film happening in Phase 7, at the very latest. Nevertheless, whenever Black Panther 3 happens, the wait for Washington’s MCU debut will be more than worth the wait.
