Tom Cruise Praises Monster Movie With 99% On Rotten Tomatoes As “Perfect”

Tom Cruise had high praise for a 2023 monster movie he referred to as “perfect.” Not only does the Mission: Impossible star hype up his own movies, but the actor has also become somewhat of a cheerleader for the movie industry as well, drawing attention to recent releases and encouraging audiences to head to the theaters to check them out. Cruise has been outspoken about his interest in helping the movie business at large, rather than just promote his own work.

As of late, Cruise has had kind words for John Wick spinoff Ballerina, and numerous other movies that hit theaters not long ago. He’s heaped praise on Sinners, The Flash, and more. Most recently, he made comments on a movie from a genre that rarely gets much critical acclaim. Based on Tom Cruise’s comments, the actor thoroughly enjoyed watching Toho’s most recent entry into the Godzilla franchise.

Tom Cruise Thought Godzilla Minus One Was Perfect

Tom Cruise Felt That Godzilla Minus One “Reinvented” The Giant Monster Movie Genre

A new video shows Tom Cruise discussing the Mission: Impossible movies and Godzilla Minus One with the latter film’s director, Takashi Yamazaki. After talking about their experiences and filmmaking ideas, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie joined the conversation to offer his thoughts on Yamazaki’s film. McQuarrie explained that he felt the movie was “very beautiful, very human,” Tom Cruise chimed in afterward, calling Godzilla Minus Onefantastic” and “perfect.” Cruise also said to the Godzilla Minus One director, “You reinvented the genre.”

Godzilla Minus One was considered a huge success, both critically and commercially. It did quite well at the box office, and earned significant praise from both audiences and critics, which is reflected by its 99% score. Based on that overwhelming positive reaction, it’s no surprise that Toho has greenlit a new Godzilla movie from the director, which Tom Cruise briefly referenced in the video.

Our Take On Tom Cruise’s Godzilla Minus One Comments

Tom Cruise Is Right About Godzilla Minus One

Tom Cruise’s ᴀssessment of Godzilla Minus One appears to be in line with the general consensus of the film. After all, it shouldn’t be forgotten that movies about Godzilla – even those loved by fans – historically don’t fare well with critics, who don’t always have nice things to say about their use of human characters and reliance on monster action. The stark differences in responses to Godzilla Minus One and most films in the franchise underscore Cruise’s opinion that the film has “reinvented” the genre.

What’s most impressive about Godzilla Minus One is that it’s able to do Godzilla justice while also finding a way to deliver a truly compelling and emotional story about its human protagonist, which is rare to see in a film from this particular genre.

It’s true that Godzilla movies don’t typically offer much in the way of character-driven stories. That’s not necessarily a problem, of course, considering that the monsters are the real stars of the Godzilla movies and should therefore get most of the attention. What’s most impressive about Godzilla Minus One is that it’s able to do Godzilla justice while also finding a way to deliver a truly compelling and emotional story about its human protagonist, which is rare to see in a film from this particular genre. All things considered, Tom Cruise isn’t wrong about Toho’s new Godzilla reboot.
