Exciting Alien Vs Predator Theory Addressed By New Predator Movie Director

Predator: Killer of Killers co-director Josh Wᴀssung provides some insight into a potential Alien Easter egg that eagle-eyed viewers have noticed. Killer of Killers breaks new ground in the Predator franchise, as it is not only the first animated movie in the main continuity, but also the first anthology. It set franchise records on Rotten Tomatoes, debuting as Certified Fresh with a staggering 98% Tomatometer score. In the movie, which is streaming on Hulu, a Predator known as the Grendel King is seen with a flowing cape that appears to be made out of Xenomorph tails, implying he has killed several of them in his career as a hunter.

In an interview with ScreenRant‘s own Joe Deckelmeier, Wᴀssung would neither confirm nor deny the Easter egg, particularly as it connects to the Alien franchise. However, it does remain a possibility that it was an intentional reference. He said:

I would say the fans should interpret that the way they want to interpret it. I mean, we wanted to design that Predator with a regal elegance mixed with brutality. And that’s what spoke to us about that. And we honestly were having fun imagining where they might’ve come from. But we really wanted to leave it to the fans to imagine where each of those skeletons and pieces of various creatures that he clearly has conquered and where they might’ve come from.

What Josh Wᴀssung’s Comments Mean For The Alien And Predator Franchises

It Seems Like He’s Under Instructions Not To Reveal Anything

Scar confronting the Xenomorph Queen in Alien Vs. Predator (2004)

The trailer for Predator: Badlands, the upcoming new chapter of the Predator franchise, indicates that Elle Fanning’s character is actually an android from the Weyland-Yutani Corporation of the Alien franchise. That essentially confirms that a legitimate crossover between the two franchises is the endgame of the sudden revival of both franchises. Just as Dan Trachtenberg’s 2022 hit prequel Prey reignited interest in the Predator franchise, Fede Álvarez’s 2024 hit Alien: Romulus did the same for the Alien franchise.

A new Alien vs. Predator movie or series will almost surely ignore the previous two Alien vs. Predator movies from 2004 and 2007, as their status as canon for either franchise is murky.

Wᴀssung played coy to ScreenRant‘s Joe Deckelmeier, but it seems like a pretty clear indication that the cape of the Grendel King Predator in Killer of Killers is in fact made of Xenomorph tails. As is often the case for franchises in development (particularly when it comes to crossover franchises), Wᴀssung is probably under strict instructions not to outright confirm anything pointing to an Alien vs. Predator movie in the near future. However, the Easter eggs and connections are beginning to pile up, making that future seem more likely with each bit of media from the franchises.

Our Take On The Potential Easter Egg In Predator: Killer Of Killers

The Alien And Predator Crossover May Happen Soon

An Easter egg in Predator: Killer of Killers that points to the two ultra-lethal extraterrestrials existing in the same cinematic universe would be further proof of how closely the two franchises may soon be tied. With a potential crossover teased in both Predator: Killer of Killers and Predator: Badlands, sci-fi horror fans will certainly be on the lookout for more connections in Alien: Earth, the new TV show set to debut on FX and FX on Hulu in August 2025. Whether there is more divulged in that show or not, the announcement of an Alien vs. Predator movie seems imminent.
