The budget for Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth has reportedly been revealed. This movie will softly launch a new Jurᴀssic series after Chris Pratt’s Jurᴀssic World trilogy wrapped up in 2022 with Jurᴀssic World: Dominion. Rebirth is set five years after the events of Dominion and will follow the story of a scientific expedition that bravely seeks to extract DNA from three huge prehistoric creatures. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards and features Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Ed Skrein, Mahershala Ali, and David Iacono. Rebirth is set for release on July 2.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the total budget for Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth is said to be $180 million. It is worth noting that some claim the estimate should be higher, with a price tag between $330 million and $400 million when including marketing costs. Jurᴀssic World: Dominion‘s budget is estimated by the source to be around $432 million.
What This Means For Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth
It Cost A Lot Less Than Dominion
It is important to note that the net budgets are calculated before the cost of marketing is added on. As such, even if the Rebirth marketing cost adds on an extra $150 million or more, it will still come in at a lower total budget than even Dominion‘s net budget. Jurᴀssic World: Fallen Kingdom also had a significant budget, coming in at $432 million as well. In terms of net budget, Rebirth is costing the studio less than half of what Dominion did.
With this budget, Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth is taking a far different approach from some other major franchise sequels. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, for instance, is one of the most expensive movies ever made, with a net budget of around $400 million. 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water costs something above $400 million, and that franchise’s threequel will also likely cost a pretty penny. Despite being a new entry into a major franchise, Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth is a lot more conservative budget-wise.
Our Take On Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth’s Budget
This Is Good News For Its Profit Potential
Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth‘s budget report is good news for the movie’s potential at the box office. Typically, films need to make at least 2x to 2.5x their budget to break even. With a $180 million budget, Rebirth has to cross a lower threshold to get to the break-even point, making it much more likely that the film will make big money. So far, every film in the Jurᴀssic World trilogy has made over $1 billion. If Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth can follow in those footsteps, it may end up becoming one of the most profitable movies this summer.
