Spielberg’s Indiana Jones Movies Return To Paramount+ As Their Complicated Streaming History Continues

The Indiana Jones franchise has returned to Paramount+, but the streaming history of the popular franchise remains very complicated. Paramount+ reacquired the Indiana Jones movies on June 1, but there is one film in the series that isn’t there, so anyone wanting to watch every film in the franchise will have to find it on another streaming service.

On June 1, the first four Indiana Jones films moved to Paramount+, meaning that Harrison Ford’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are all available on that streaming service for fans. However, the one notable exception is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Anyone who wants to see the fifth movie in the Indiana Jones franchise will have to head over to Disney+ to view it, as that film was not a Paramount movie, and therefore is only available right now on Disney platforms.

Indiana Jones’ Streaming Rights Explained

Paramount & Disney Each Have Rights To Indiana Jones

There are five movies in the Indiana Jones series, starting with Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981 and the last movie, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, in 2023. In between, Lucasfilm, under Paramount, released Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 1989, and finally, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008.

Through it all, Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones fought Nazis to protect the world, while encountering religious artifacts, voodoo priests, Knights of the Templar, aliens, and even time travel. However, there is a problem with the rights issues now. After Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Disney bought Lucasfilm.

This means Disney owns the Indiana Jones films, and they all ended up being added to the Disney+ streaming service since the acquisition. The movies were initially available on Paramount+ as well, but Paramount+ removed its Indiana Jones offerings in October 2024. That all changed in June when the streamer got the Paramount Indiana Jones films back again. The first four movies are also available on the free, ad-supported Pluto TV since June 1 as well. All five movies are also still on Disney+ for subscribers there.

Our Take On Indiana Jones Streaming Situation

Splitting Up Franchises Is A Downfall Of Streaming Wars

Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark

It is often hard to keep track of where movies end up in the streaming era. This is even more frustrating when different movies in a franchise end up split up between streaming services. For the Indiana Jones franchise, there luckily is one place to see them all, with their primary home being on Disney+. That streaming service even has the documentary, Timeless Heroes: Indiana Jones & Harrison Ford. However, for those who don’t want Disney+, only the first four movies are available, but those are still the best Indiana Jones films in the franchise.
