The DCU’s Latest Wonder Woman Movie Update Has Made Me Hopeful The Hero’s Perfect Casting Will Become Reality Soon

The latest update about a Wonder Woman movie in the DC Universe has only increased my hope that a perfect fan casting will come true. Naturally, the DCU is gearing up for the release of James Gunn’s Superman movie, which is set to be the first theatrical installment of many as the brand looks to build its own interconnected universe. That said, the focus on Superman has not stopped Gunn from outlining the other heroes he has planned to introduce in other upcoming DCU movies.

After all, the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters is still the plan for the immediate future of the franchise, meaning more of these тιтular beings need to be introduced. In a recent Entertainment Weekly article focused on Superman‘s release, Gunn was questioned about these heroes, from Batman and Supergirl to other members of the Justice League. One such member was Diana Prince, better known as Wonder Woman, with Gunn giving an intriguing update about the character’s future and making me more hopeful than ever that the perfect casting for one-third of DC’s iconic trinity will come to fruition.

The update came alongside one for a Wonder Woman-adjacent project that has already been announced for the DCU. In January 2023, when Gunn first outlined his plans for the franchise’s first chapter, he mentioned a TV series named Paradise Lost, a Game of Thrones-style show set on Themyscira, the birthplace of Wonder Woman. Gunn was asked about this, insisting that it was still moving along, albeit somewhat more slowly than he initially anticipated.

Thankfully, the slow-moving development of Paradise Lost cannot be said for another project linked to Diana Prince. Gunn revealed that a Wonder Woman movie is “being written right now,” making the character’s first DCU movie seem closer than ever. Hopefully, this means that the Wonder Woman movie will be released in the coming years, potentially in 2027; beyond Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Clayface in 2026, no DCU movies have a confirmed release date. Making a Wonder Woman story one of the DCU’s first theatrical endeavors would be fitting for the character’s status.

One Candidate For Wonder Woman Stands Above The Rest

Adria Arjona smiles as Star Wars' Andor character Bix Caleen and Wonder Woman in DC Comics

As has been the case with DCU heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman for some time now, many online have been trying to provide acting candidates for these huge roles. One that tends to be more popular than any other where Diana Prince is concerned is Adria Arjona. Arjona has proven herself to be an incredible actor and fits the visual appearance of Wonder Woman with her darker skin tone and long, dark hair. With this news that a Wonder Woman movie is inbound, I am still hoping that Arjona is picked for the role above anyone else.

Why Adria Arjona Could Be The DC Universe’s Perfect Wonder Woman Casting

Arjona Would Bring A Lot Of Benefits To The Role

In many ways, Arjona would be perfect for Wonder Woman. The aforementioned visual similarities she shares with the character aside, Arjona is simply a great actor with experience in big-budget franchises. In 2022 and 2025, Arjona received critical acclaim for her role as Bix Caleen in Andor, a Star Wars TV show. Andor is the most expensive production Lucasfilm has ever funded for Star Wars, with the experience of being on a set like this only proving how right Arjona is to help carry a behemoth like the DC Universe going forward.

This gives Arjona several connections to some of the DCU’s creative members…

Arjona also has a history with James Gunn after starring in a movie he wrote named The Belko Experiment. Moreover, Arjona is currently in a relationship with Jason Momoa, the former Aquaman actor who has been confirmed to appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Lobo. This gives Arjona several connections to some of the DCU’s creative members. Finally, Arjona proved herself a worthy leading actor in Richard Linklater’s Hit Man, with the action-comedy nature of that film – among others like Six Underground – proving she could easily sustain a DC Universe role as Wonder Woman.
