Superman’s Newest Updates Secretly Reveal A New DCU Villain’s Backstory According To 1 Major DC Movie Theory

The most recent updates about Superman have me convinced that a new DCU villain’s backstory links to two key parts of the film’s plot. James Gunn’s Superman movie is on the horizon, meaning the marketing for the movie has kicked into high gear. Aside from the most recent Superman trailer, James Gunn and the film’s cast are conducting several interviews and attending many press junkets to adequately tease the first installment in the DC Universe.

Reveals about other upcoming DC movies aside, many more updates about what to expect from Superman are being provided. A recent editorial on the movie from Entertainment Weekly saw to this, with the cast of Superman – including David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced, to name only a few – shedding more light on the important DC installment. Thanks to some comments made about Superman, I have concocted a theory that links some big characters to a new DCU villain, explaining the latter’s backstory.

A New Superman Update Reveals Exactly Which War The Hero Stops In The DCU Movie

As Teased In The Official Trailer

Boy lifts a flag in the Superman trailer

The recent update in the EW article actually links to a line from the official Superman trailer. The trailer opens with Lois Lane interviewing Clark Kent as Superman, questioning him on the decisions that have made him seem like he was acting on behalf of the United States government. The actions in question include Superman stopping a war between two countries, with these countries since being outlined.

The EW article lists the countries as Boravia and Jarhanpur, both fictional locations from the world of DC Comics. The trailer did not make it clear which countries were fighting in the conflict Superman interrupted, but it seems we now have that answer. Interestingly, this links to another aspect of Superman that was also shown more than ever in the official trailer for the first installment of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

One Of Superman’s New Villains Is Named The Hammer Of Boravia

An Original Character For The DC Universe

What makes the inclusion of Boravia specifically interesting is one of the many villains of Superman. In the trailers for the film, the тιтular hero can be seen fighting a person in a giant, golden suit of armor. This suit of armor seems incredibly powerful and has some of Superman’s powers, including laser eyes. In merchandising material, this character has been named the Hammer of Boravia.

Herein lies the connection. It seems as though Superman riles up the people of Boravia by getting involved in the war they are waging with Jarhanpur, leading the Hammer of Boravia to seek retribution. As an original character created for the DC Universe, it is difficult to know exactly who or what the Hammer of Boravia is. With this piece of information, though, it seems as though he is a warrior of his own country, hellbent on holding Superman accountable for whatever actions the hero took during the war.

The Hammer Of Boravia May Have A Not-So-Mysterious Benefactor In Superman

Other Superman Updates Lead To A Plausible Theory

Nicholas Hoult As Lex Luthor Sipping From A Coffee Mug In Superman Face In Superman Trailer

Finally, I have one more piece to this puzzle that completes the theory. As we all know, the main villain of Superman is Lex Luthor, the hero’s arch-nemesis. In the EW article, Gunn made some interesting comments about Lex’s role in Superman: “Lex is connected to everything. There’s nothing bad happening in Metropolis during this movie that doesn’t have some connection to Lex Luthor. With this in mind, I think the two villains are connected.

Luthor will stop at nothing to harm Superman in any way he can, including equipping a warrior from another nation with the means to combat him. After what goes down involving the war, Lex could get in touch with the people of Boravia and create the Hammer of Boravia’s suit, sending this fighter against Superman. This way, the new DCU villain of Superman would have a strong reason to go against the тιтular embodiment of hope, all while tying back to the true antagonist of the film.
