Some Star Wars movie characters are way more forgettable than others. The galaxy far, far away is quite large and full of unique beings and faces from planet to planet. However, some characters are barely in the movies, while others have only received their time to shine outside the big screen.

Naturally, the Star Wars franchise keeps expanding every year with new movies, shows, books, comics, games, and more. However, that doesn’t mean every single character has their own fully fleshed story and arc. Some are just meant to be in the background as secondary (and perhaps even tertiary) characters. Keeping that in mind, here are 10 of the most forgettable Star Wars characters (at least when it comes to their roles in the movies).

Dak Ralter

The Empire Strikes Back

As seen at the opening of The Empire Strikes Back, the Empire discovers the Rebel Alliance’s secret base on H๏τh. Launching a full-scale ᴀssault with Imperial Walkers on the ground, the Empire also had Star Destroyers waiting in orbit. However, the Rebellion bought themselves enough time to incapacitate the Imperial blockade and get their forces evacuated and off the planet.

Meanwhile, Rebel pilots in T-47 snowspeeders took the fight to the AT-ATs armed with tow cables. Led by Luke Skywalker as Rogue Leader, Luke’s co-pilot was Dak Ralter, debuting in Luke’s T-47 and dying in that same cockpit just a few scenes later. As such, Dak might tragically be one of the Rebellion’s most forgettable soldiers, considering just how brief his role was.

Nien Numb

Return of the Jedi

In a similar vein, Nien Nunb was Lando Calrissian’s co-pilot on The Millennium Falcon during The Battle of Endor. While he certainly looks unique as an alien Sullustan, very little time was spent inside the actual Falcon’s cockpit. Nien’s alien language wasn’t translated either (though it was the actual Kiuyu language spoken in Kenya). While Nien Nunb did make a second appearance in the sequels as a Resistance pilot, he had even less time on-screen than he did in Return of the Jedi. Even Nien Nunb’s death in the Battle of Exegol went largely unnoticed.

Lobot

The Empire Strikes Back

On the one hand, Lando Calrissian’s right-hand man Lobot gained a sort of cult-following following his single movie appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. Since then, Lobot has been prominently featured in novels and canonical comics, including recent issues from Marvel set between Episodes V-VI. That being said, Lobot’s actual movie role in The Empire Strikes Back simply had him as a wordless cyborg in just a handful of scenes, making Lobot one of Star Wars’ more forgettable characters in the mainstream.

Yarael Poof

The Phantom Menace

A background Jedi Master, Yarael Poof is certainly one of the more unique-looking members of the Jedi Council in The Phantom Menace, with his long neck and slender limbs. However, Poof is barely shown, with Episode I being his only on-screen movie appearance. That being said, the non-canonical Robot Chicken series and their various Star Wars specials made Poof a hilarious recurring character, one who survived the events of Order 66 when the rest of the Council forced him to pick up pizzas. Canonically, Poof did have a. more compelling role in the recent novel The Living Force by John Jackson Miller.

Chancellor Valorum

The Phantom Menace

Also in The Phantom Menace, Finis Valorum was the Chancellor of the Republic before Sheev Palpatine manipulated the Senate. Convincing Queen Amidala to call for a vote of no confidence in Valorum, this led to another vote where Palpatine was elected as the Republic’s new Chancellor. That said, it’s pretty easy to forget about Valorum, considering how quickly he’s introduced and subsequently deposed in The Phantom Menace.

Sabé

The Phantom Menace

Despite being played by a young Keira Knightley, very few people beyond the biggest Star Wars fans know that she was even in The Phantom Menace, let alone who she played. Known as the Queen’s Shadow, Sabé was Queen Amidala’s most trusted handmaid and her primary decoy. As such, Sabé played the role of the Queen while Padmé herself posed as a handmaid, an added layer of royal protection.

Sabé was not featured in the movies again beyond The Phantom Menace. However, she did star in her own novels alongside Padmé, and also played a key role in Marvel’s Darth Vader comic series in 2020. In the series from writer Greg Pak, Sabé sought justice for Padmé’s death but ended up in Darth Vader’s service, having learned the truth about who he once was and attempting to bring Anakin Skywalker back to the light between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Sly Moore

Attack of the Clones

A member of Palpatine’s inner circle, Sub Administrator Sly Moore is another background character who first debuted in The Attack of the Clones. Beyond another small appearance in Revenge of the Sith, Sly Moore did receive a brief reference in Andor season 1, as her name was mentioned by Senator Mon Mothma (which is more than the movies ever did). That said, Greg Pak’s Darth Vader series did wonders for Sly Moore, confirming her low-level Force sensitivity and desire to bring new order to the Empire, leading an anti-Palpatine cabal of bureaucrats known as the Schism Imperial.

Captain Typho

Attack of the Clones

Replacing Captain Panaka, Captain Typho became Padmé Amidala’s new head of security when she became Naboo’s senator. However, Typho didn’t have very many memorable scenes in Attack of the Clones, nor his single scene in Revenge of the Sith right before Padmé heads for Mustafar to confront Anakin, corrupted by the dark side of the Force. That said, Typho did have a more memorable scene in the non-canonical Clone Wars 2D series, having been the “victim” of a humorous Jedi mind trick by Grandmaster Yoda himself.

DJ

The Last Jedi

Despite being played by Benicio del Toro, The Last Jedi’s DJ aka Don’t Join may be one of the most forgettable and underutilized Star Wars characters of all time. Having debuted in Episode VIII, D.J. offered his services to Finn and Rose Tico when he learned they needed a codebreaker to break into The Supremacy, the flagship of the First Order. That said, he subsequently betrayed them to the First Order when it served him best.

In The Last Jedi, DJ believes in neither side of the war. As such, it seemed as though D.J. would reappear in The Rise of Skywalker with some kind of redemption arc. However, the character was never seen again outside The Last Jedi (one of Episode VIII’s biggest disservices).

The Knights of Ren

The Force Awakens

The Knights of Ren were in The Force Awakens for a single sH๏τ, completely absent from The Last Jedi, and then finally featured in The Rise of Skywalker. That said, The Rise of Skywalker largely left the Knights of Ren extremely underutilized. They mainly just stood around with zero dialogue before they were ultimately slain by Rey and Ben Solo. Given how much they were hyped, it’s tragic how forgettable they are in the actual movies. However, it’s conversely been very exciting to see their stories fleshed out in the canonical comics, primarily The Rise of Kylo Ren and 2020’s Star Wars by Charles Soule.
