Even though she doesn’t appear in Ballerina, Eve Macarro’s mother plays an important role in the movie’s story. At the beginning of the film, Eve and her father are seen living a peaceful life after escaping from the Cult, who are the main villains in Ballerina. However, their peace is quickly disrupted when the Cult tracks them down. While he puts up a good fight, Eve’s father dies at the beginning of the film. Thankfully, though, Eve is not taken by the Cult, and instead becomes a member of the Ruska Roma.
Twelve years later, Eve decides to embark on a mission to get revenge against the Cult for the death of her father. On this mission, Eve meets her sister, who her father chose not to take during their escape since she had become too integrated with the Cult. Additionally, Eve’s mother is also mentioned in Ballerina, but her fate is unknown. At the end of Ballerina, Eve kills the Chancellor, but the Cult could still play an important role in future John Wick movies. Therefore, Eve’s mother could potentially appear in a potential sequel to Ballerina.
The Chancellor Claims Eve’s Mother Was Killed By The Cult
Does The Chancellor Lie About Eve’s Mother’s Fate In Ballerina?
According to the Chancellor, who leads the Cult, Eve’s mother is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. However, his word should not be taken for truth, which is why it is still worth examining what really happened to Eve’s mother. In Ballerina, the Chancellor claims that Eve’s mother “paid the price” for her father’s desertion. Obviously, this makes it seem like she was killed after Eve and her father escaped, but it’s possible that she was punished in a different way.
More than likely, Eve’s mother was actually completely loyal to the Cult, which is why her father didn’t escape with the whole family.
While not much is known about Eve’s mother, it seems like she was an important member of the Cult. Therefore, it would be surprising if the Chancellor decided to kill her, or even punish her at all. More than likely, Eve’s mother was actually completely loyal to the Cult, which is why her father didn’t escape with the whole family. If this is the case, then the Chancellor’s claim that Eve’s mother “paid the price” in Ballerina is probably just a lie.
Could Eve Macarro’s Mother Still Be Alive?
Eve’s Mother’s Fate Remains A Mystery
Since it is never confirmed that Eve’s mother is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ in Ballerina, she is most likely still alive. After all, the beginning of the film also makes audiences think that Eve’s sister is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ before it is revealed that she is actually Lena. Lena being an important member of the Cult is another reason why Eve’s mother is also probably completely loyal to the group. In Ballerina, Lena and the Chancellor clearly have a good working relationship with each other.
Before her death, it seems like the Chancellor trusts Lena more than many other members of the Cult. He only orders his men to kill her because Eve was obviously going to complicate their relationship. Therefore, Lena’s role in the film suggests that Eve’s mother is also an important member of the Cult. While she is seemingly not in the town in Ballerina, she could track Eve down in a potential sequel. Overall, based on all the clues, it would be surprising if the Chancellor actually killed Eve’s mother.
Ballerina’s Ending Could Hold A Secret Connection To Eve’s Mom
Ballerina’s Director Wants Eve’s Mother To Be Alive
Aside from clues in the film, Ballerina director Len Wiseman’s comments about Eve’s mother also suggest that she is not actually ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. Wiseman revealed that Eve actually met her mother in an earlier draft of the script. Even though the final version of the film suggests that she’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, the filmmaker himself admitted that you never know who’s really ᴅᴇᴀᴅ in the John Wick franchise. Additionally, Wiseman theorized that Eve’s mother may have placed the bounty on her at the end of Ballerina. He said:
At one point I had [in the script] that she meets her mother, and we never got there. We were maybe going to shoot the scene, but that’s always something that we hear, her mother’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, but in this world, you never know who’s really ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. There was an element of, when Eve does get the contract on her at the end, we don’t necessarily know for sure who put that contract on her. And if that path led to that, maybe her own mother [put the hit on her]. That would be brutal.
Her mother still will need to return to that village and see it decimated, and her daughter has been killed. So the ramifications can come in many different forms.
Based on Wiseman’s comments, it would be shocking if Eve’s mother doesn’t show up in a future project in the John Wick franchise. If a sequel to Ballerina is made, it would make perfect sense for Eve’s mother to play a prominent role. Perhaps she will become the new leader of the Cult and hunt down Eve. Therefore, even though audiences are led to believe Eve’s mother is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ in Ballerina, she is most likely still alive.
