It would be a huge missed opportunity if Mortal Kombat 2 doesn’t include a fight between these two outspoken characters. Since Shang Tsung and his Outworld warriors failed to kill Earthrealm’s champions at the end of 2021’s Mortal Kombat, an official tournament will be held in the sequel. This is very exciting, since not including an actual Mortal Kombat tournament was one of the main criticisms fans raised about the 2021 film, which rebooted the movie franchise. Since it includes an actual tournament, a lot of new characters will be introduced in Mortal Kombat 2.
Ahead of the film’s release, it has been confirmed that characters like Shao Kahn, Baraka, and Quan Chi will appear in Mortal Kombat 2. These characters will all fight for Outworld, but Earthrealm will also get a new champion in the sequel. After the first film’s tease, Johnny Cage will debut in Mortal Kombat 2. Johnny Cage is one of the most popular characters in the franchise, and will be played by beloved actor Karl Urban. This is already exciting, but Johnny Cage’s inclusion also means Mortal Kombat 2 can feature a fight between him and Kano.
Kano Will Return In Mortal Kombat 2 After Stealing The Show In The 2021 Movie
Josh Lawson Will Return As Kano In Mortal Kombat 2
In addition to all the new characters who will appear in Mortal Kombat 2, the sequel will also bring back several fighters who died in the first film. This is thanks to the aforementioned Quan Chi, a necromancer from the Netherrealm who is capable of bringing people back from the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. Out of all the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ characters returning in the sequel, the two most notable ones are Sub-Zero and Kano. While Sub-Zero can continue his rivalry with Scorpion, Kano can once again try to sabotage Earthrealm’s champions.
In the first film, actor Josh Lawson stole the show as Kano. He initially trained with Earthrealm’s warriors in Raiden’s temple, and constantly bickered with the other characters while he did so. Eventually, Kano decided to betray Earthrealm and side with Outworld. At the end of the film, Kano was killed by Sonya Blade. However, it has been confirmed that Lawson will reprise his role as Kano and once again fight against Sonya and Earthrealm’s other warriors.
Kano Vs. Johnny Cage Needs To Happen In Mortal Kombat 2
This Fight Would Be So Entertaining In Mortal Kombat 2
It would be great to see a rematch between Kano and Sonya in Mortal Kombat 2, but I hope the movie also has the former Black Dragon leader face Johnny Cage. One of the reasons Kano stood out so much in the first movie is because he filled the void that was caused by Johnny Cage’s absence. In the Mortal Kombat video games, Johnny Cage is usually the Earthrealm warrior who is very cocky and outspoken, which are two characteristics he shares with Kano.
It would also be hilarious to watch Urban and Lawson bicker at each other as Johnny Cage and Kano in the sequel.
However, the main difference between Johnny Cage and Kano is that the former is truly loyal to Earthrealm. While Kano will be a villain in Mortal Kombat 2, Johnny Cage will be a hero. Based on their somewhat similar personalities, Mortal Kombat 2 needs to include both a verbal and physical fight between Johnny Cage and Kano. A potentially ᴅᴇᴀᴅly, physical fight is obviously expected in a Mortal Kombat movie, but it would also be hilarious to watch Urban and Lawson bicker at each other as Johnny Cage and Kano in the sequel.
Johnny Cage Beating Kano Will Make Him A True Earthrealm Hero
Will Johnny Cage Be Earthrealm’s Champion In Mortal Kombat 2?
If Mortal Kombat 2 faithfully adapts the character dynamics in the games, it’s likely that Earthrealm’s other fighters, like Sonya and Jax, won’t like Johnny Cage when they first meet him. This is understandable, since he does have a very similar personality to Kano. Therefore, they may think that Johnny Cage will betray them in the sequel. However, him fighting and beating Kano will prove to them that he is on their side.
Furthermore, since Kano was very disrespectful towards Sonya in the first film, Johnny Cage defending her in Mortal Kombat 2 could potentially set up a romantic relationship between the two characters. Johnny Cage and Sonya get married in the video games, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the movie franchise also pairs them together. Therefore, Johnny Cage fighting Kano could be an important moment in the story of Mortal Kombat 2, in addition to being very entertaining.
