Godzilla X Kong: Supernova Theory Reveals A Classic Kaiju, Who Debuted Decades Before SpaceGodzilla, Is Joining The Monsterverse

There are plenty of indications that SpaceGodzilla will be the primary antagonist of Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, and if that is actually the case, then the door will be open for one of Toho’s oldest monsters to join him in the Legendary Monsterverse. Ever since the new movie’s тιтle was revealed, the popular theory has been that the space-related subтιтle points to SpaceGodzilla making his grand entrance into the cinematic universe that combined the Godzilla and Kong franchises. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but SpaceGodzilla’s origins certainly align with the word ‘supernova’, giving many fans confidence in his imminent arrival.

If SpaceGodzilla joins the Monsterverse, chances are there will be major departures from the story from his first appearance, Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. While certain elements, like his trademark black hole origin and crystalline geokinetic powers, will certainly carry over, it seems likely that the Hollow Earth will need to play a role in Supernova. However, there is one major element from Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla that absolutely needs to accompany SpaceGodzilla into the Monsterverse, and it’s another monster that’s nearly as old as Godzilla himself.

Supernova Introducing SpaceGodzilla Opens The Door For MOGUERA

The Successor To The Heisei Era’s Mechagodzilla

Moguera robot in Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla

Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla featured the first appearance of the anti-Godzilla mecha kaiju Mogera, or MOGUERA, whose name is an acronym for “Mobile Operation Godzilla Universal Expert Robot Aero-type”. MOGUERA first appeared in Toho’s 1957 sci-fi feature The Mysterians, making him only three years younger than Godzilla. During Godzilla’s Heisei Era, the robot is technically made of two joined halves, a land-based tank apparatus (Land Moguera) and the Star Falcon aircraft. When they joined together, they made MOGUERA, a robot which was created alongside Super Mechagodzilla, which fell to Godzilla at the end of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II.

The original name “Mogera” from The Mysterians is derived from the Japanese word for ‘mole’, and is a result of Mogera originally being pictured as a quadrapedal digging animal in The Mysterians, before the creators pivoted to the upright robot.

In addition to its iconic drill arms and drill face, MOGUERA is armed with a bevy of plasma cannons and lasers, and is coated in a synthetic diamond armor that allows it to repel Godzilla’s atomic breath. MOGUERA first attempted to intercept SpaceGodzilla in space, then battled him alone on Earth until Godzilla finally joined the fray. In the final battle that involved the three monsters, MOGUERA’s final rush at SpaceGodzilla was what allowed Godzilla to finally destroy his cosmic clone. MOGUERA, or a similar Monsterverse iteration, would make a ton of sense if SpaceGodzilla is the villain of Supernova.

How MOGUERA Could Enter The Monsterverse

Mechagodzilla Opened The Door For All Robotic тιтans

M.O.G.U.E.R.A. from Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla

As soon as Apex Cybernetics put Mechagodzilla into commission, all the fully robotic monsters from Godzilla’s cinematic past suddenly became possible for the Monsterverse. Monarch’s use of similar tech to what was used for Mechagodzilla to create Kong’s B.E.A.S.T. glove proved that there is no compunction with using tech to augment organic тιтans, which even opens the door for cyborgs like Gigan. The notion that they would create a robotic тιтan specifically to help Godzilla and Kong is perfectly reasonable, which is exactly how MOGUERA or Jet Jaguar could come into play.

MOGUERA is technically a creation of G-Force, the military arm of a joint United Nations task force created to counteract Godzilla. Some early set pH๏τos from the production of Godzilla X Kong: Supernova may have already teased the Monsterverse’s version of G-Force, which could be acting as a more antagonistic version of Monarch. Instead of supporting the тιтans, G-Force could carry over its Heisei Era mission of defending against them, and MOGUERA would make an ideal primary weapon/defender against the power of Godzilla and the other тιтans.

The Monsterverse Needs Another Robotic тιтan

Robotic Kaiju Are A Huge Part Of Godzilla’s History

While the last two movies have been largely Kong-focused, make no mistake: the Monsterverse starts and ends with Godzilla. Therefore, the Monsterverse needs another robotic тιтan given how prevalent they have been in Godzilla’s cinematic history. Whether battling against them as a destroyer or countering them as a defender, Godzilla has a long-standing tradition of taking on robots, and so far, the Monsterverse hasn’t delivered enough on that front. Mechagodzilla’s beat-down of Big G in Godzilla vs. Kong was entertaining enough, but that can’t be the only robot to make an appearance.

With Monarch already dipping their toes into the robotic waters with Kong’s augmentation, the next natural step is for them (or perhaps G-Force) to build a тιтan of their own. A robotic тιтan like MOGUERA could help Kong and Godzilla battle future threats that they may not be able to handle, or even act as a safeguard in case Kong or Godzilla ever needs to be stopped for some reason. With an ultra-dangerous monster like SpaceGodzilla possibly threatening Earth in Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, MOGUERA could be the difference between victory and defeat for humanity.
