Instead Of Keanu Reeves Returning Again, These 7 John Wick Characters Would Be Better For Ballerina 2

Ballerina is the latest entry in the John Wick universe, following a talented ᴀssᴀssin named Eve Maccaro (Ana de Armas) who sets out on a dangerous mission to bring down the violent tribe responsible for her father’s death many years ago. Much like the other John Wick movies, the spinoff does an excellent job of blending dynamic action with fierce character development, bolstered by an electric lead performance from de Armas. Although Ballerina 2 hasn’t been confirmed, it feels safe to ᴀssume that Lionsgate has plans for a sequel.

Keanu Reeves’ cameo in Ballerina is one of the film’s most exciting moments, and the franchise could easily continue this tradition in Ballerina 2. Every project in the universe is connected in some way, so it makes sense that certain characters would pop up from time to time in these standalone spinoffs. Ballerina also brought back figures like Winston and the Director, who had previously appeared in the John Wick movies. The potential for further cameos in a sequel is truly exciting, as it could finally cement this franchise as one that doesn’t solely rely on its main character.

The Adjudicator

Played By Asia Kate Dillon

The Adjudicator standing in the rain in John Wick Chapter 3

With Eve’s story likely tying in with the High Table, it seems plausible that some familiar faces from the John Wick storylines will make appearances. If this is the case, the Adjudicator seems like a very strong candidate. The antagonist is an enforcer for the High Table, last seen in John Wick 3, where she worked alongside Winston to bring John to justice following the unlawful killing of Santino D’Antonio.

What’s so interesting about The Adjudicator is that, despite her power, she’s a very calm and collected presence who rarely gets involved in combat. She watches from the sidelines, using those who are loyal to her to complete the tasks. Eve has already proven that she’s capable of beating pretty much anybody in hand-to-hand combat, but it would be fascinating to see how she deals with a more indirect threat.

6

Sofia Al-Azwar

Played By Halle Berry

Halle Berry’s guest role in Parabellum is one of the many reasons that it’s often considered the best John Wick movie, but the franchise has surprisingly never made use of the actor since then. Sofia Al-Azwar is the manager of the Casablanca branch of the Continental, who ᴀssists John during his visit to Morocco as he seeks the Elder of the High Table following his banishment.

Sofia gets one of the best-ever John Wick fight sequences in the third movie, using her trained dogs to kill the mercenaries that hunt John down. It’s such a memorable moment, and her return in Ballerina would be sure to get audiences excited. While it’s unlikely that Eve’s journey will take her to Casablanca, there’s every possibility that Sofia will be in New York, and she could even be tasked with protecting her as a favor to John.

5

Cᴀssian

Played By Common

Common as Cᴀssian aims a gun at an off-screen John Wick in John Wick: Chapter 2.

Though it’s hard to imagine how Eve’s story would connect with the D’Antonio crime family, anything is possible in the world of John Wick. Cᴀssian’s one-off appearance in John Wick 2 was a huge highlight of the movie, facilitating one of the franchise’s most intense (and deeply funny) fight scenes ever.

It could easily be revealed that Cᴀssian switched allegiances to another crime family after the deaths of Gianna and Santino in John Wick 2, which would explain why he’s around to hunt Eve down in Ballerina 2. Of all the characters who could theoretically return to the John Wick universe, Cᴀssian would be a huge surprise, but a very welcome one.

4

Mr. Nobody

Played By Shamier Anderson

Mr Nobody in a French building in John Wick Chapter 4

Mr. Nobody was a new addition in John Wick: Chapter 4, but his sharp sense of humor and complex morals quickly made him a fan-favorite. The hitman is a skilled tracker whose talents are employed by the Marquis to capture John Wick, but after spending time with the тιтular ᴀssᴀssin during their chase through Paris, he grows sympathetic for his cause and becomes visibly upset when he’s seemingly killed. Anderson’s layered performance is one of the best parts of John Wick 4, and he’d be a welcome addition to Ballerina.

There are several one-off hitmen in the John Wick franchise who’ve hunted down the protagonist in search of a bounty, but Mr. Nobody is certainly the most interesting.

There are several one-off hitmen in the John Wick franchise who’ve hunted down the protagonist in search of a bounty, but Mr. Nobody is certainly the most interesting. Given the $5 million price that’s been placed on Eve’s head in Ballerina’s ending, it would make sense for Mr. Nobody to get involved, although her history with John Wick could end up bringing them together.

3

The High Table Elders

Played By Said Taghmaoui & George Georgiou

John wick chapter 4 elder recast

While it’s been confirmed that the High Table will not play a role in John Wick 5, that doesn’t mean they’re going to be totally absent from the franchise’s spinoffs. It seems very likely that both Ballerina 2 and the upcoming Caine movie will feature the High Table in some form, with Eve’s bounty surely catching the attention of the global crime syndicate. If that’s the case, it’s the perfect opportunity for a sequel to explore one member of the High Table whose background has always been a mystery: The Elder.

Two different Elders have appeared throughout the John Wick movies; the first seemingly retired between the events of John Wick 3 and John Wick 4, while Reeves’ protagonist killed the second Elder in the latest movie. In both cases, very little explanation was given as to what the Elder actually does, or why they’re so powerful. If Eve follows in John’s footsteps and seeks the Elder’s ᴀssistance in Ballerina 2, there would be a perfect opportunity to develop this character further.

2

Caine

Played By Donnie Yen

It’s already been confirmed that Caine will receive his own spinoff within the next few years, so it would make sense for Donnie Yen’s character to make a brief appearance in Ballerina 2 to tie everything together. There’s been lots of talk about which character will be the new “face” of the John Wick franchise when Reeves inevitably steps back, and if it’s going to be Eve and/or Caine, it makes sense for them to team up at least once.

Although Caine was hired by the Marquis and forced into the role of an antagonist in John Wick 4, his long-standing history with Reeves’ protagonist made him a very ambiguous and compelling character. It would be fascinating to see him in a more heroic role in Ballerina 2, presuming his actions are no longer being influenced by the High Table.

1

The Bowery King

Played By Lawrence Fishburne

The Bowery King is one of John Wick’s best-supporting characters and seems like the most natural fit for the world of Ballerina. Since Eve will probably be seeking refuge in the underworld of New York, it would make complete sense for her paths to cross with Lawrence Fishburne’s beloved anti-hero. It’s even possible that John Wick will put her in contact with him, as he knows exactly what it’s like to be hunted by an entire city.

Ballerina 2 could offer more insight into the Bowery King’s backstory, which has only been vaguely discussed in the main saga. There were discussions of a potential Bowery King spinoff at Lionsgate a few years ago, though nothing ever came of them. Still, that proves that the John Wick team clearly has ideas for this character, and the world of Ballerina could be the perfect place to explore them.
