New Superman Trailer Showcases A Day In The Life Of Daily Planet PH๏τographer Jimmy Olsen

A new clip from the set of Superman showcases a day in the life of Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen, a young pH๏τographer at the Daily Planet who is a close friend of Clark Kent/Superman’s in DC Comics. Directed by James Gunn, the film also stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Sean Gunn, Sara Sampaio, Anthony Carrigan, and Wendell Pierce, among others.

Shared to Gunn’s X account, the footage starts with Gisondo introducing his character and maintains the point of view that someone is shooting Jimmy on their phone. Though these scenes offer little by way of new knowledge about the setting, it does set up Jimmy’s relationships with Clark and Lois Lane. The latter is shown chastizing Jimmy, and he explains that “as head reporter, she’s technically, on paper, above” him, but he “like[s] to think [they’re] equals.” He classifies their relationship as “friendly” and says she doesn’t mean to take that tone with him–prompting Lois to say “shut up.

In contrast, Jimmy says “Clark’s the man,” before noting that “he steps out a lot” and “skips a little bit when [Lois] looks at him.” The clip concludes with whoever is recording Jimmy asking about a pH๏τo of him with two women on his desk, which the pH๏τographer dodges answering.

What The Jimmy Olsen Daily Planet Promo Means

A split image of Skyler Gisondo and art of Jimmy Olsen from a DC Comic

Though Jimmy has appeared in a few trailers for Superman, this footage gives the first substantial look at Gisondo in character. Moreover, it establishes his dynamic with Lois and Clark, while also contrasting their personalities. The young pH๏τographer is eager to please and gives people the benefit of the doubt, namely Lois and their boss, Perry White. Jimmy is also often depicted as closer to Clark than Lois, so this characterization aligns with the comics.

Interestingly, the snapsH๏τ of Jimmy with the women has already drawn some speculation from the internet, with fans questioning whether he may be a secret ladies’ man. The irony is that this promo was likely sH๏τ before eagle-eyed fans caught the picture. Nonetheless, Jimmy’s awkward response that they’re just “friends” seems like a gag that may crop up in the actual Superman film in some form.

Our Take On The Jimmy Olsen Daily Planet Promo

Jimmy may not be as essential a character as Lois, but he is still a big part of the overall Superman mythos. Seeing him faithfully adapted to the DCU is an exciting prospect, and the promo sets this up through his interactions with Lois and Clark. Gisondo’s Jimmy will make his official debut when Superman opens on July 11, 2025.
