Scarlet Witch’s Death Accidentally Summoned Doctor Doom To Face The MCU’s Avengers In Avengers: Doomsday Theory

Scarlet Witch’s fate in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) appears to have been resolved in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but her role may still have a knock-on effect that could influence Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and beyond. Wanda Maximoff has one of the most tragic stories in the entire MCU. From her childhood, losing her parents and being imprisoned alongside her brother for years, to the loss of her beloved Vision, and the children she created in Westview, only to learn that they existed in many realities except Earth-616.

However, despite an arc that eventually saw Wanda become the villain, she did have a moment of redemption at the end of Multiverse of Madness as she pulled the Wundagore Mountain down on herself, and saved the multiverse from her immense power. However, despite trying to make things right, Wanda’s final sacrifice could still inspire more issues for the heroes of the Earth-616 reality if this theory proves correct.

Scarlet Witch’s Sacrifice To Destroy The Darkhold Could Have Larger Knock-On Effects In The MCU

The Darkhold Was Destroyed All Across The Multiverse

When Wanda pulled the Wundagore Mountain down on herself, she also destroyed the Darkhold. But more than just destroying the copy of the book that appeared in her reality, Wanda destroyed the Darkhold in every reality. ᴀssuming the Darkhold was held securely by the Sorcerers in many realities, this may be a thing that has gone unnoticed for some time, but the book’s disappearance could cause widespread panic if it isn’t clear that the book was destroyed.

However, things may prove even more complex in realities where nefarious figures got their hands on the book. Like Stephen Strange from several other realities, there are characters across the Multiverse who are using this book for their own gain, accumulating incredible power, and becoming increasingly attached to the power that they derive from its pages. But according to the comics, Doctor Doom has also had his hands on the Darkhold at various points in the timeline, which could have even larger repercussions for Wanda’s universe.

Linking Scarlet Witch Destroying The Darkhold & Doctor Doom Targeting The MCU’s Main Universe Would Make Sense

There Is A Precedent In The Comic Books For Doctor Doom To Study The Darkhold

If Doctor Doom was in possession of the Darkhold, Wanda destroying the book would have almost certainly alerted him to some powerful presence beyond his own reality. And losing such a powerful artifact would likely not go down well with the terrifying leader of Latveria. If he was using the Darkhold at the time, or noticed its disappearance after Wanda’s sacrifice, he may have begun searching the multiverse for the person responsible for destroying his book, and became aware of the powerful beings that exist throughout the multiverse.

The disappearance of the Darkhold from Doom’s possession could have resulted in his reality being destroyed, or other negative impacts that now motivate the character to travel the Multiverse and cause the same destruction as could have happened on his own world. This would also lead nicely into a narrative like Avengers: Secret Wars, where Doom may collect heroes and villains from across the multiverse, and pit them against one another in a Battleworld scenario.

Having The MCU’s Multiverse-Wide Events Impact Later Events Would Help The Multiverse Saga’s Scale Be Truly Felt

The Multiverse Needs Deeper Connections

One significant criticism that has been leveled against the Multiverse Saga is the fact that the movies appear to have too few connections. With several Avengers movies in the Infinity Saga, the events of that saga were shaped by the overlapping adventures the heroes had between their solo outings. But if the Multiverse Saga includes moments that happen in one movie and then have a direct impact on other films, it would go a long way to creating cohesion in the Multiverse Saga.

That isn’t to say the Multiverse Saga hasn’t done this at all. The events of Eternals had a lot to do with Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolts* implies direct links to other films. However, this sacrifice from Wanda likely has wider-reaching consequences, and alerting Doctor Doom to the presence of other powerful beings and realities would be a great way to kick off the story in Avengers: Doomsday.
