Toy Story 4 Director & Ryan Reynolds Teaming Up To Adapt Popular Children’s Book

Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley and Ryan Reynolds’ production company Maximum Effort are adapting a popular children’s book. Cooley most recently directed the animated Transformers One movie, which holds an 89% Tomatometer score and 97% Popcornmeter score. Maximum Effort has produced many of Ryan Reynolds’ movies from the past decade, including ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2, Free Guy, The Adam Project, IF, and ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine.

As per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Paramount Animation is developing an adaptation of I Eat Poop: A Dung Beetle Story by Mark Pett, with Reynolds’ Maximum Effort producing and Cooley in talks to direct. Award-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who previously worked on Trolls, La La Land, and The Greatest Showman are also set to produce the film adaptation via their production company Ampersand.

What This Means For The I Eat Poop: A Dung Beetle Story Movie

It Is ᴀssembling A Great Team

The I Eat Poop movie is in the early stages of development, with Cooley only in talks to direct at this time. While Transformers One‘s box office was a disappointment, the animated movie received acclaim from critics and general audiences, and is widely considered to be the franchise’s best installment in years. After the success of his creative vision in Transformers One and Toy Story 4, the latter of which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, Cooley is now poised to helm an animated movie that is not part of a mᴀssive franchise.

It is too early for any casting to take place, but it is highly likely that Reynolds will star in I Eat Poop since he has been in most of Maximum Effort’s movies. Following the box-office success of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, Maximum Effort’s involvement and Reynolds being in the cast bode well for the upcoming Paramount Animation film. The other confirmed producers, Pasek and Paul, indicate that I Eat Poop will contain plenty of musical elements and even some original songs.

Our Take On The I Eat Poop: A Dung Beetle Story Movie

It’s A Good Fit For Josh Cooley & Ryan Reynolds

In Toy Story 4 and Transformers One, Cooley has proven he can tell equally heartfelt and hilarious stories in animation that resonate with audiences of all ages. This makes him a perfect fit for I Eat Poop as it has a great deal of humor while also teaching valuable lessons about bullying, diversity, and standing up for one’s friends. Reynolds’ humor makes him a good fit too, especially when remembering that he has been able to do more family-friendly movies like IF. Cooley, Reynolds’ Maximum Effort, and the musical talents of Pasek and Paul make the adaptation an exciting prospect.
