To commemorate the streaming debut of Captain America: Brave New World, lead actor Anthony Mackie took to Instagram to celebrate. Though he has played Sam Wilson for over a decade now, the film marked his cinematic debut as Captain America, following Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers. Captain America: Brave New World also stars Harrison Ford, Tim Blake Nelson, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, and Giancarlo Esposito. Unfortunately, the film received mixed reviews and failed to gain traction at the box office, but it is not without its fans.

Mackie captioned the post: “Amazing to think about Captain America being on Disney+ now. It was such a great journey, filled with love and support from family and Marvel crew. ‘What happens to a dream affirmed?’” The actor included a carousel of pH๏τos featuring himself, Ford, and Red Guardian actor David Harbour in black and white.
What Anthony Mackie’s Captain America: Brave New World Post Means
Despite the film’s generally underwhelming reception, Mackie has been positive regarding his work on Captain America: Brave New World. Previously, he revealed that he got a pat on the back from his predecessor, Evans, stating that he “loved the movie.” Otherwise, he has been publicly optimistic about his MCU future and upcoming role in Avengers: Doomsday.
To contextualize Captain America: Brave New World’s journey to streaming, examining its production and release is vital. Having undergone extensive reshoots and script rewrites, the film’s budget is reported to be around $180. Its box office gross was $200.5 million domestically and $415.1 million globally (via Box Office Mojo). Given that a major studio movie’s break-even point profit-wise is usually double the budget plus around $100 million in marketing costs, meaning that the MCU outing is just shy of that mark.
Since its home media and streaming releases, Captain America: Brave New World has become a surprise hit. The film hit number 1 on both the overall DVD and Blu-ray sales chart, the dedicated Blu-ray Disc chart, and the 4K Ultra HD chart. Additionally, it has topped the streaming charts in the US and in 35 territories overall.
Our Take On Anthony Mackie’s Captain America: Brave New World Post
This unexpected success of Captain America: Brave New World will likely not translate to further profit for Marvel in a substantial enough way to offset its budget. However, the boost in people viewing the film could lend itself to a cult following or reevaluation by audiences. Alternatively, this could translate to more overall fan interest in Avengers: Doomsday if the viewers click with Mackie’s character. Regardless, Mackie’s pride in his work is inspiring, and his positivity will hopefully shine through in subsequent MCU appearances.
