Spider-Man: Brand New Day has a major mystery role in the form of who Sadie Sink will play, and a new Marvel Cinematic Universe theory explains how her character could be none other than the daughter of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. Maguire was the first Spider-Man movie actor outside film serials, making him the first exposure to the hero of many generations. After starring in some of the best Spider-Man movies during Sam Raimi’s trilogy, he recently returned to the role.

Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland’s versions of Peter Parker interacted in the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Four years later, Marvel has yet to announce whether the multiverse Spider-Men could appear in future MCU movies. There have been rumors about how Marvel and Sony debated between going the multiverse or street-level route for Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s story, but with Holland teasing the film is a fresh start for Spider-Man, the latter makes sense. Still, Sadie Sink’s mystery character could tie to Maguire’s Spider-Man in a key way.

The Spider-Man Movie Finally Resolved A Key Raimi Trilogy Plot Point

Maguire’s Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson brought to live-action Spider-Man’s biggest relationship from the comics. The characters had a will-they-won’t-they relationship throughout Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, leaving it to be interpreted if they would get together in the universe’s future, which was not shown given Spider-Man 4‘s cancellation. In early drafts of the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Dunst would have returned as Mary Jane, showing what came to be of her and Peter’s relationship.

While that did not happen, Maguire’s Spider-Man teased where things stood between him and MJ years after they last appeared together in 2007’s Spider-Man 3. While describing his complicated relationship with Mary Jane, which the Raimi Spider-Man movies made clear, Maguire explained that they were finally in a good place, saying, “It took a while, but we made it work.” If Peter and MJ have been together for some time and are now in their 40s, then they could have easily had a daughter together, with that being Sadie Sink’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day character.

Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man Could Get Home To Discover His Daughter Is Missing

Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Peter Parker interfere with Doctor Strange’s spell at the start of the film, leading to characters from the previous Spider-Man movie franchises showing up in the MCU. If Sink were to play the daughter of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, then she would have been worried sick about her father’s sudden disappearance. I’m convinced that the easiest way of explaining how Sadie Sink could be the daughter of Maguire’s Spider-Man is to connect with Doctor Strange’s final spell.

At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Strange makes the world forget who Tom Holland’s Peter Parker was, which stops several multiverse characters from coming to Earth-616. However, as she was looking for her father, the new MCU theory would explain Sink’s Spider-Girl arriving in the MCU as the exception to the rule. She would have been the one character to squeeze through the multiverse before Doctor Strange closed the door. As such, her father, Maguire’s Spider-Man, would have been sent home while she was stranded in the MCU to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The Upcoming Avengers Movies Could Include Multiple Spider-People

Spider-Man: Brand New Day can still be a street-level story with Sadie Sink as Spider-Girl. The MCU movie could have her find Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and them working together throughout the film. At the end of it, Peter, now having befriended her, could set out to find a way for her to go back to her universe to be reunited with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane, and that leads to Spider-Man’s Avengers: Doomsday story.

After Marvel delayed the next two Avengers movies, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will now be released before Avengers: Doomsday. That makes it perfect for Sadie Sink to play the daughter of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, setting up not only Holland’s story in the next Avengers movie but also a way for Marvel to bring back Maguire’s Peter Parker. Since Sink is set to have a main role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, I’m looking forward to seeing if the theory pans out.
