From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is the latest feature film in the John Wick franchise. It is the first John Wick-related project since the Prime Video miniseries The Continental in 2023. Ballerina subs out Keanu Reeves’ main protagonist for a female ᴀssᴀssin, Eve, played by Knives Out alum and Oscar nominee Ana de Armas. Eve is trained according to the traditions of the Ruska Roma and seeks vengeance for her father’s death. While de Armas will play the main character, Reeves will also return to the screen as John Wick.
Ballerina is a defining moment for the John Wick franchise in that it will prove whether these spinoff films can do well in theaters. The series already has another non-John-led film in the works, directed by and starring Donnie Yen. His returning character, Caine, was introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4, so the film will not feature an entirely new character like Eve, but it is still not slated to include John. If Ballerina does well, this will be a good sign for the Donnie Yen John Wick spinoff. Here is everything to know about the movie’s showtimes and streaming status.
Ballerina Releases In Theaters On June 6, 2025
Ballerina Will Have A Wide Release
Ballerina comes out in theaters on June 6, 2025, with enhanced formats such as XD and Dolby Cinema available at some locations. This follows a host of preview screenings as well as the typical Thursday soft release in some cinemas. The movie has a 2-hour and 5-minute runtime, which, while longer than the first two movies in the franchise, is far shorter than its predecessor (John Wick: Chapter 4), which clocked in at 2 hours and 49 minutes. When Will Ballerina Release On Streaming?
It May Take A Few Months
When Ballerina eventually hits streaming, it will be on Starz. Lionsgate acquired Starz nearly a decade ago in a 2016 deal that cost them $4.4 billion. This duo recently became separate publicly traded companies, but Lionsgate is still expected to release their streaming films on that platform for the time being. Starz is available as its own streaming service and as a premium add-on for existing services like Hulu and Prime Video. Ballerina will be a big deal release for Starz, as it is a high-profile film.
Based on past data, Ballerina will likely hit streaming around November. It is important to note, however, that the Lionsgate streaming data has been somewhat inconsistent with how long after theatrical releases they’ve allowed movies to hit streaming. The 2024 adaptation of The Crow, for example, took 180 days to release on streaming despite its box office flop, whereas this year’s Den of Thieves 2: Pantera took only 69 days. Others have fallen more exactly within the five-month range, such as The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which took 152 days. With these averages, a mid-November streaming release seems likely.
When Will Ballerina Release On Digital?
It Will Come Sometime This Summer
Though its streaming release date may still be a few months away, Ballerina will come to digital far faster. While they take a long time to hit streaming, Lionsgate releases are typically quick to come to digital. Den of Thieves 2 did so after only 18 days, and other movies have also fallen into this month or a shorter timeline. However, John Wick: Chapter 4 took 60 days between its theatrical and digital releases, leaving more time for theatrical exclusivity. If it goes this route, Ballerina will not hit digital platforms until August, forcing audiences to wait slightly longer to watch it at home.
