Sydney Sweeney’s Video Game Movie With Wicked Director Won In Bidding War, First Details Reportedly Revealed

Sydney Sweeney’s video game movie with Wicked director Jon M. Chu, Split Fiction, has been won in a bidding war, with the first details reportedly revealed. Sweeney is one of the most in-demand young stars, with Eden, Echo Valley, Americana, and The Housemaid all releasing in 2025, and a Christy Martin biopic, Barbarella remake, Masque of Red Death movie, and many more projects in development. In late April, Sweeney was reportedly cast in an adaptation of the popular video game with Chu directing and a script by ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Now, per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Amazon MGM Studios is close to securing a deal to acquire the Split Fiction movie adaptation. The deal is reportedly valued at over $2 million. The compeтιтive bidding for the highly sought-after project began a few weeks ago, which included interest from Sony and several other studios in contention.

What This Means For The Split Fiction Movie

It’s A Highly Sought-After Project

Amazon MGM Studios winning a compeтιтive bidding war for the Split Fiction movie adaptation shows how highly sought-after the project is, as a rare alignment of star power, popular intellectual property, and proven creatives. Split Fiction is based on a hit video game as its foundation and features one of Hollywood’s biggest young stars right now in Sydney Sweeney. Additionally, Director Jon M. Chu recently delivered a big hit with Wicked, as did Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick as the screenwriters behind ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine.

Created by Hazelight Studios and built with Unreal Engine, Split Fiction follows two writers named Mio Hudson and Zoe Foster who find themselves stuck in a simulation run by Rader Publishing, a tech firm that uses artificial intelligence to extract creative ideas from authors. To break free, they must join forces and journey through bizarre landscapes shaped by their preferred genres, sci-fi and fantasy. Sydney Sweeney is set to portray one of the writers, though it’s unclear which character she will be playing.
