Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars already look like they have the perfect opportunity to show the full powers of a character who appears to be the MCU’s strongest 2023 movie hero debut. The story of Avengers: Doomsday is teed up to be a truly colossal one, with mᴀssive implications for the franchise’s overarching story and the final releases of the Multiverse Saga. While Avengers: Doomsday & Avengers: Secret Wars‘ releases have been delayed, this will hopefully allow for further time and care to be taken to ensure the next Avengers movies after Avengers: Endgame hold up for the MCU.
The first Avengers: Doomsday cast announcements confirming that a range of major characters will be in the fifth Avengers installment certainly suggests that some big plot moments are on the way, especially since it reveals that members of the Avengers, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men will all be playing a role in the upcoming MCU release. As it stands, the picture this paints also suggests that another newer MCU hero could also fit perfectly into the upcoming Avengers movies, and potentially get the chance to show their full powers within these films.
The MCU Is Set To Have A Range Of Powerful Characters Appear In Avengers: Doomsday & Avengers: Secret Wars
While the full cast for Avengers: Doomsday isn’t yet known even after the March 2025 announcements – and even less is known about who will appear in its successor, Avengers: Secret Wars – it’s already clear the film will be full of MCU heavy hitters. What we do know about the cast for Avengers: Doomsday has confirmed that major powerful Marvel characters like Thor, Magneto, Loki and Professor X will be in the fifth Avengers movie, and are thus likely to continue into the sixth Avengers movie in some capacity as well.
To add to this, the heroes of Avengers: Doomsday are set to face up against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in this chapter of the MCU’s story, who is an immensely powerful Marvel villain in his own right – and likely to be on top form in Doomsday to justify so many strong protagonists teaming up to try and take him down. With Doom being a central character in Marvel’s 2015 Secret Wars comic story – as well as a not inconsiderable role in the original Secret Wars comics – it stands to reason this is setting up for his story to also continue into Avengers: Secret Wars as well.
This would also make sense given characters like Thor and the Fantastic Four also play key roles in the 2015 Secret Wars storyline.
With powerful characters both new and old all making their appearances in the upcoming Avengers movies, it stands to reason the next major MCU crossover film will have some truly epic displays of strength and battles as the installments bring the Multiverse Saga to a conclusion. As such, it seems this part of the MCU timeline is a prime opportunity to demonstrate the abilities of some of the franchise’s other most powerful characters, especially given the epic scale that’s been teased for the Avengers movies that will bring the MCU’s second Saga to an end.
The Next Avengers Movies Are The Perfect Chance To Show Off The Full Powers Off One Hero After Their 2023 Movie Debut
2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 paid off the previous installment’s tease of Adam Warlock – which showed the birth pod he would eventually be created in, and the High Priestess’ decision to make him – via bringing the character into the MCU properly. With the comic version of Adam Warlock being an immensely powerful character with a wide range of skills, it stood as no surprise that the MCU’s Adam Warlock also appears to have a considerable power level, albeit without some of the wisdom his on-page counterpart conventionally displays.
By the end of the film, Adam Warlock has gone from an active enemy of the Guardians to a member of the new team lineup, cementing the Sovereign as now being one of the MCU’s newest heroes. With Warlock’s powers only being shown in a more limited capacity – losing to the Guardians while appearing to drastically underestimate them at the start of the movie, for example, despite later being shown as easily ripping the head off of a War Pig, and fainting before getting to use his powers against both Gamora and later Groot – this is all the more notable.
With another Guardians movie seeming far off on the horizon if it does indeed happen, letting Adam Warlock show off his full powers after the teases of what they could look like in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 seems all the more promising of a prospect given how his full powers appear to be teased more than once. That said, this would also allow Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars to have a hero who can be shown as immensely powerful but also justifiably taken down by “weaker” opponents, since Warlock is shown to be impulsive and still fine-tuning his tactical abilities.
Why Adam Warlock Appearing In Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars Would Make Sense
While the comic version of Adam Warlock notably plays a more key role in the comic storylines surrounding the Infinity Stones, rather than Secret Wars or seemingly the main comic stories the Multiverse Saga looks set to adapt, it wouldn’t be out of place for the MCU to flip the script in this regard. Since it now appears effectively impossible for Warlock to play a role in a major storyline with the Stones in the on-screen side of the franchise, instead bringing the character more into the central events of the Multiverse Saga in exchange.
Though the MCU could certainly justify the new Guardians of the Galaxy team not being a part of the next Avengers movies, the fact the current story setup suggests a multiverse-wide colossal crossover is on the way means that it seems like there’s plenty of room to feature Adam Warlock and the Marvel group he’s now a part of, even if it’s just to have them lend a hand, trunk or paw during the big fights that are no doubt inbound. Ultimately, even simply having a variant of Adam Warlock – allowing him to be hero or villain – could also seemingly work at this point of the Multiverse Saga.
The Avengers movies have long been the films wherein the MCU can go all out on showing the larger-than-life abilities of its characters – and this isn’t something that’s exclusive to the Avengers themselves, as is perhaps best demonstrated by Avengers: Endgame‘s climactic Battle of Earth, and how it showed a huge number of Marvel’s heroes bringing their a-game. Hopefully, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will be able to follow suit, and give characters like Adam Warlock their own versions of these moments.
